Just saw on Channel 4 news about the MassMob movement in Detroit as an effort to attract Catholics back to Mass. I have reservations about it (liturgical abuse). Anyone else hear of it?
I heard of them happening in the Philadelphia area, I think.
I don’t know how much I like it. Not that it’s a liturgical abuse, but that the mob becomes a spectacle and draws attention away from the real reason people should be in church.
We’ve had two in Cleveland. They are a way to get a large group of people to see some of the beautiful older churches in the inner city. The first two have targeted churches that were closed by the Bishop and reopened under orders of the Vatican. THese churches are still struggling financially and the MassMobs bring a full church to a Mass that hasn’t seen a full church in years.
