Masturbation is always wrong, no ifs ands or buts.
its ok masturbation is perfectly normal i have a website for you is called healthystrokes.comIs masturbation wrong if I don’t fantasize while doing it? Just as a release? I have so much sexual tension in me right now and I think I might just explode…no literally it feels physically stressful…
Well I think at this point in my life I’m addicted. I’m trying to work past it and, thank God, I’ve made so much progress. But if I do it again, do I just pray and then receive Communion? I honestly don’t think God would send me to hell for doing something I’m biologically wired for and in adolescence…I don’t know. Maybe it’s not my place to decide whether I’m innocent or not, but I just don’t want to be too hard on myself considering my age.So I was under the impression after reading parts of “The Catechism for Dummies” (written by a catholic, it quotes the Catechism and explains the important stuff for those of you who are unfamilliar and may be thrown off by the name) that although masturbation IS a sin, it is NOT one of those clear-cut things. For example, they cited someone who masturbated daily without knowing it was a sin (and therefore it wouldn’t be a sin due to the lack of full knowledge), and then found out it was sinful.
Since this person was SO used to it, it’s like trying to quit smoking (any substance for that matter) cold turkey. Sometimes it works and most times it fails and causes the person in question a lot of suffering. Instead, you’re supposed to repent for what you’ve done and if you do give in, to pray for more strength and take it one day at a time. That way you are always working to become more Christlike, even though we are not Christ and are able to fail once in a while. God will never stop loving us, no matter what.
That’s how I look at it. Hope it helped! So stay strong, repent if you give in, try your hardest to fight it, but don’t go to any extremes that might hurt God’s plan for you in the future (cut off your hands so that you CANT masturbate, etc.) and don’t get too down about failing. We all do it, and anyone who says otherwise is a liar. We all have our weaknesses and just need to do our best. That’s the most that God can ask of us.
The thing that I heard that helps me most is that “God won’t make a mountain that you can’t climb” In other words, no challenge is too big to overcome with Gods help.
Peace!
My Confessor is at the point with me where he knows I’m young (19) and that I’m desperately trying. He is currently helping me root out the causes (pornography and other occasions of sin), but he hasn’t specifically ever said that I’m a-okay to receive if I have done it. He does imply it though, because sometimes he won’t even give me advice, he’ll just say a prayer that I can learn to be other-centered and break my addiction (this making me think that if I was really doing something just pure wrong, he would be a little more forward than just an indirect prayer for me)What advice does your priest give you? I’m 30 and my confessor says I’m too hard on myself! I think we need to keep it in perspective…while the church declares it disorderd and can’t condone it, the Church sees a myriad of circumstances that lessen the culpability of the person that performs the disordered act. Habit and immaturity are a couple of factors. If your confessor helps you to see that these are present in your life, then you can dust yourself off, keep struggling, and recieve the Eucharist.
I think the goal here is to never embrace it; never say ‘the hell with it, I’m going to do it anyway with a clean and free will and have no regrets.’ If you and your confessor can figure out if you have any mitigating circumstances behind the act, as long as you struggle and have a goal to break free, then you do not condemn yourself. If you make a hobby out of it, well, that’s a different ballgame!
Why chance further sin by receiving if you are in doubt?Well I think at this point in my life I’m addicted. I’m trying to work past it and, thank God, I’ve made so much progress. I guess the doubt would mitigate any mortal sin, if we’re trying to avoid irritating my mild scrupulosity. Why chance further sin by receiving if you are in doubt?
I don’t know how scrupulous you are. If it’s a real problem, then you should listen strictly to your confessor.I guess the doubt would mitigate any mortal sin, if we’re trying to avoid irritating my mild scrupulosity.
No, I do not think doubt would mitigate a mortal sin. More likely, doubt would be an indicator that your conscience may need a little tweaking, though, based on your other posts, I suspect it would not need much. You seem to have your head screwed on straight.I guess the doubt would mitigate any mortal sin, if we’re trying to avoid irritating my mild scrupulosity.
Yes, masturbation almost always mortal, like all sexual sins.Is it a mortal sin to mastubate?
Sorry if it’s a dumb question, I’m not very good at distinguishing between the two, but know venial sins are ok to recieve communion because you say that bit before it…know the bit? Say your sorry etc before communion, where as mortal you have to confess them to the priest and do penance?
Am I right:shrug: I’m a little rusty on catholic stuff
If we’re being “legal”, then yes. But this is one of the mortal sins that is difficult for both the Clergy and Lay People to handle and nearly every case is based on the individual. Is it a mortal sin to mastubate?
Ha-ha-ha-haaa!For help on quitting masturbation, see the suggestions in the following link:

By the way, I did not review the link to see if it contained any questionable material so be careful!![]()
uff…I can honestly say that I was disappointed when I read this post…God help us allAs this is a grave sin and you know it is a grave sin and you cannot really do it accidentally (therefore you consent knowing it is seriously wrong), it would always be a mortal sin. While age and force of habit, according to the Catechism, can mitigate some of the seriousness of an individual act of this, it does not say to what degree. Even with mortal sins, some are more grave than others.
