Masturbation: NOT A SIN

Dudes, it is so obvious that masturbation is a sin: it is a lust of the flesh, not spiritually gratifying, but rather physically gratifying, it is of your physical man, not your spiritual man, it is not done in service of God, but of self; it talks about how men lust after women, how men lust after men, how women lust after women, and what happens when you don’t release that lust? There is a trial: masturbate or no? Better to not even make provision for the flesh by KEEPING YOUR EYES, EARS, and HEART, for from the heart flows all things. When you are with God, you don’t feel that way at all, but…

“when a man is drawn away from Christ, he is drawn away by his own lusts…”

Do you think anyone in heaven is masturbating? Could you see God congratulating you for masturbating? If so, you are terribly mistaken, and terribly deceived.

One reason people refuse to accept that masturbation is a sin is because they have deceived themselves into thinking otherwise so they can continue doing it. I went to a Catholic Men’s Conference back in September which turned out to be an all out assault on masturbation. I saw grown men break down crying with grief because they were feeling for the first time the soul pains that the blind sinner does experience. And people here are trying to say that masturbation does not hurt anyone? C’mon.

It’s not the truth that scares people - it’s the implications. They KNOW its true; its just the APPLICATION that makes them say “I don’t believe”. Why not rather just say, “look, masturbation is wrong and I do it, and I am ashamed, and I wish I could stop but I can’t - can you help me, God? Please? Thank you for giving me strength.” LOL ! hahaha omg i love you guys to death!

CRUMPY - GOOD POSTS

Yes, I enjoyed reading your posts. I haven’t checked everything out, but certainly the Church has changed its position on a number of major issues. Recall how Abelard wrote Sic et Non centuries ago in which he said Popes had contradicted one another.

Sadly, there are some Catholic traditionalists who simply refuse to face up to the truth, who are ‘more Catholic than the Pope’ and go to great lengths to claim that the Church has never been ‘officially’ wrong on anything. For example, they even defend the Inquisition and think it was fine that the Pope called for a special Te Deum when as many as 50,000 French Protestants were slaughtered when they were gathering to celebrate a wedding on St. Bartholomew’s Day. They don’t seem to want to leave behind the psyche of the Middle Ages when the punishment for ‘heresy’ was execution.

But I find that it may not be useful to question them, They probably are decent folks, but emotionally invested in their position. Fine with me - a free country - but I do become annoyed when some of them are so self-righteous in their rejoinders and accusations.

God bless the whole world - no exceptions.
I too become annoyed with people’s accusations and innuendo of self righteousness. I guess there’re some things we all have in common.

And yes, sometimes people have bad days.

No action in and of itself is a mortal sin. Since we are talking about masturbation, we’ll use that as our example. Masturbation is a serious sin, which is only one of three components required for it to be a mortal sin. It outomatically has the potential, if the other two conditions are present. Next, you must have full knowledge. You have to know you are doing it and know the seriousness of the action. Third, you must have full consent. This means if it has actually become an addictive behavior, this condition may have not been met. A general statement can be made the masturbation is a mortal sin, because in most instances, all three criteria have been met, but if either of the last two criterion are missing, culpability, though not seriousness, has been reduced.

I love your signature “if you think your sin ‘isn’t that bad’ - all Adam and Eve did was eat a piece of fruit.” lol

I said a lot of things. Pick something that I said was wrong. I got to this point precisely by educating myself.
The Church was anti-science: The scientific method was developed by the Church.
The Church condemns all birth control: The Church condemns ARTIFICIAL birth control. NFP does not rely on either chemically or physically interrupting the natural process of conception.

Those are just off the top of my head. Im sure if i would actually do some research i could rufute the others as well.

omg this is awesome - my pastor was teaching on immorality (just by CHANCE - not!) today. I needed that, because the devil is very tricky; very deceptive. I thank God, he said, “this is addressed to CHRISTIANS - the unrighteous WILL NOT INHERIT THE KINGDO MOF HEAVEN - DO NOT BE DECEIVED”

Off-topic, I know, but I gotta say it. This kind of destroys the Protestant doctrine of “faith alone”, don’t you think?

LOL I don’t believe in “faith alone” I guess I’m Catholic! haha

When U read stuff like that written in the bible, it makes u wonder, this day & age to go into your brothers wife is a terrible thing to do,thats why certain things in the bible I dont get
You need to understand the context of this custom. Onan was told by his father Judah to fulfill a Jewish custom that when a husband dies, his next oldest brother was to marry the widow. "Go into thy brother’s wife, and marry her."In this case, Tamar, the widow in view, had no children to care for her when she would become elderly. Thus Onan (through the marriage relation) was to legitimately provide children to her.
The reason Onan did not spill inside her was because, “lest he should give seed to his brother.” The custom was that the brother-in-law’s first child to the widow was considered to belong to her first husband.
Onan’s problem with this was that he was the next of kin to recieve Judah’s inheritance.
Therefore, Onan was motivated by greed as he did not want to lose his position as next of kin to receive the inheritance and thereby spilled the potential heir onto the ground.

There is nothing morally indecent about masturbation. It is a perfectly healthy and normal act. Masturbation should not be condemned because in condemning it, you a condemning apart of yourself because being sexual is apart of being human. It is a personal decision and no religious dogma should make that decision for an individual, not even his wife, however it should be discussed.
Matthew 5:27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’
But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart… And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell.”

Ephesians 5:3 “But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints.”

Thank you Wild Boar! 👍

This is a sin that I’ve had to deal with in my life, and by God’s grace His truth has set me free!"
Believe me, I understand. although this particular sexual sin did not have me in bondage, it was of another type. But I came to understand just how much it was that I was hurting God. And when He decides to show someone how much He hurts, get ready for a whollop!

Set me straight let me tell you! :bigyikes:

Sexual sins gen get their hooks into your soul so deep…

I guess my point is: It appears that the wasting of Onan’s seed was not the issue, so what is the basis for the Church’s teaching that every sex act must be open to life?
The basis is in Scripture and in natural law… God made sex to optimally good under only specific conditions… (marriage, total self-giivng, open-ness to life).

to be closed to life… means being closed to total surrender to God… To be closed to life is to be against life… whether one consciously realizes it or not… One of the popes predicted that with contraception (artificial) would come abortion…

No matter what you do to try justify this thing there is always the consience that will tell you it’s not right. Right now I am on the down side with this and felt very down after falling into it. It would be a long challenging process to get over this one. The most I,ve gone without doing it was two weeks. Hopefully the setting captives free course will work. You might consider praying the rosary to overcome these things or join the rosary confraternity.

Grace and Mercy O Jesus. Through present dangers cover us with thy precious blood.
