Correct… 1 and 2 are correct… you should try it sometime…
The syllogism was missing premise two. It seems to me that premise two must in some way state the natural bodily functions are never sins.
If that’s the case, then one must define natural bodily functions.

That’s not true. A lot of Catholics are able to live chaste lives. Yes, a chaste life demands struggle, but hey, all sins and temptations require us to struggle, not just those involving lust. It may be hard at first, especially if this has become a habit. But the grace of God is always there to accompany us. I suggest that the first step to conversion is a good Confession. Once in the state of grace, it’ll be easier t understand the teachings of the Church. It’ll also give you the grace you need for the struggle.

This thread is asking for trouble. You will get some people who genuinely want to help you and will tell you what the Church teaches and why, and provide you with helpful links to lead you on a path to holiness.

Then there are sarcastic comments or comments from unbelievers that tell you do what you want… as long as it feels good it or your body wants it, it must be good. Can’t tell who’s joking or who isn’t. I feel sorry for the young people who come on here in search of guidance and answers. Kids these days are taught in school that humans are no different than animals and are incapable of controlling themselves, so they can really use the help of the Church which gives them hope of overcoming these sins.

I suggest searching the main part of the site or chastity.com. The forums are not always helpful because everyone can write what they want, true or not, with or against God’s will/Church teaching.

I don’t see why it would be.

For some reason, everyone here thinks that if you enjoy yourself and have a little fun, you’re a terrible, terrible person, unfit to eat a Eucharist.

I can’t see any logical reason why a God would want someone to pump out as many babies as humanly possible, and the implication of this is that there is also no logical reason for every single sperm cell to never be wasted.
It has nothing to do with being against “having fun”. It’s about being against sin.

I’m sure the Sodomites and Gommorans had fun. Do you think God just didn’t want Adam and Eve to have fun when He told them not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil?

And pertaining to wasted sperm: The fruit wasn’t bad… the fallen fruit was.

What you need is Confession. 🙂 You need the state of grace to straighten out your reasoning.

I have heard people say it is “natural” for men to cheat on their wives. Some politicians say it is “natural” for them to be corrupt. So many excuses for sins. But would God consider them excused on their day of judgment? 🤷

Thank you for your comment.....if you go back to answer #10 you will see I mentioned suicide ,,,,, young people get the mind in a bad place.... they should be informed that it's a natural thing for people to do.... I would rather a person go for it than end there own lives because they thought satan was forcing bad thoughts in there mind.....
Who are the people that suffer because of a male ending for no real reason ?
The Parents… who will console them ?

Huh? And what psychiatric study told you that being informed that masturbation is wrong leads to suicide? Because if that were true, I’ll be surprised to find Catholics with sound doctrine still posting in CAF. 😃

So let me get this straight. You feel it is better for one to die spiritually than physically? Is there any study that links not watching porn to suicide?

To the original poster, I agree with this. It’ll be better if you could find a spiritual director (maybe a priest?) with SOUND doctrine who could guide you on your way. Don’t listen to those people whose unsubstantiated opinions blatantly contradict Church teaching as found in the Catechism.

And yes, www.chastity.com is a good site that may answer your other questions. 👍

The rationale, “it’s natural so it can’t be a sin” can pretty much be used to rationalize any sinful behavior. Sin itself is a “natural” act. Some people are naturally more violent than others but that does not justify violent behavior, Its wrong because it interferes with a fundamental Catholic conception of life, marriage, and procreation.

Could we please have a moratorium on this topic? It’s like flogging a dead horse. 😃

My point is that sin has nothing to do with enjoyment.

I enjoy eating food. A Jew in Jesus’ time would say that I should fast because to them, enjoyment is bad.

This stems from the tribal idea of sacrifice to pagan gods that preceded Judaism altogether, however it has an echo that was felt in that time period.

We simply haven’t forgotten the ringing of that echo.

Stevo has created yet another intellectually deep topic
Hey man just back off;your trying to see everything I do on this website. Also no im not an atheist, and I posted this question people been saying masturbation is a sin and others say it isn’t but it shows here by the majority of people saying it is,so just back off. OK.

I would really like to against the tide here…
How possibly could Masturbation be a sin… Goodness me…
it’s a natural body instinct … like could sneezing be a sin ? nope…
Because it’s a natural body function… could breaking wind in church be a sin ? Nope…
Because it’s a natural body function… How many young men need to commit suicide
because they have it drummed into there head that they have committed a sin ?
What about wet dreams ? is that a sin ? … Nope because it’s a natural body function…
how about giving young people a break and say… go for it buddy… just make sure you control the urges and the urges dont control you.
This is straight out of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

2352 By masturbation is to be understood the deliberate stimulation of the genital organs in order to derive sexual pleasure. "Both the Magisterium of the Church, in the course of a constant tradition, and the moral sense of the faithful have been in no doubt and have firmly maintained that masturbation is an intrinsically and gravely disordered action."138 “The deliberate use of the sexual faculty, for whatever reason, outside of marriage is essentially contrary to its purpose.” For here sexual pleasure is sought outside of "the sexual relationship which is demanded by the moral order and in which the total meaning of mutual self-giving and human procreation in the context of true love is achieved."139

To form an equitable judgment about the subjects’ moral responsibility and to guide pastoral action, one must take into account the effective immaturity, force of acquired habit, conditions of anxiety or other psychological or social factors that lessen, if not even reduce to a minimum, moral culpability.

oh for goodness sake! Men are like dogs in heat when it comes to this… Seriously, do something else with your time! There is wayyy too much time on your hands
With all due respect, discussing a temptation that can lead to grave sin and place one’s soul in danger of eternal separation from God is important. You must be fortunate never to face temptation of mortal sin. I would say I envy you, but alas, spiritual envy is a mortal sin. Golly, I guess I just have too much time on my hands.

Is masterbating sinful, like say you masterbated but disnt spill sperm is that still considered a sin and with out any lust ful thoughts just a clear mind. Also say you ejaculated but it was pre ejaclution is that at least sinful or mortal sin?
Yes it is sinful, when you have these thoughts ask God to remove them or say aloud - “in Jesus’s name I command you leave” it works every time.

That doesn’t work for me. But I am making progress. I’ve been away from Mass for awhile and I am weak anyway.

It is good that you are making progress, you must have full trust in God when this happens, it is obviously easier once you are in a state of grace and receiving the sacraments regularly but I cannot fully emphasize the joy of being in Gods friendship, renounce the spirit of the world give up everything and abandon yourself to God then you will have happiness.
I will keep you in my prayers.
