The desk button is not uncommon. When I worked in the Private Sector, I came across several Higher-ups that had the same thing installed under their desk. It is an “Active Shooter” “Panic Button”. Yes, some Higher-ups don’t have Secretaries.
They all have assistants, but I take your point. They don’t have a secretary sitting outside their door.

So it’s more about how he used the button, not that he had one.

These buttons are for summoning help, not locking doors.

Not the ones I’ve come across. I’ve worked for some pretty paranoid people. I will admit I have seen 2 and sometimes 3 buttons. I usually ask about the single button when I see them when I was setting up cabling for new computers( on my back looking at the underside of a desk ). Asking about more than one crosses the line of what is proper.

I have these in my own house ( bedrooms ). Wife is way to paranoid. Keep telling her we are not in the Crime infested North East(where she is from)…we are in the “Preferred Community” of Alabama.

Home makes sense. Office, not so much.
I work for DHR, it makes a lot of sense. We take Kids away from Bad parents and Parents away from Bad kids. We are 85% funded from the Federal Government. When Trumps starts slashing that Funding, we expect incidents to increase.

We are behind Mag-Locks. We have mandatory “Active Shooter” training yearly. Some people are so paranoid, they have copier paper taped over the glass windows of their doors to their offices and work spaces.
