Hi MariaG, in another thread people told me that Catholic scholars don’t take the infancy narratives as historical, but I don’t have any references. I hope they’re wrong!

You may have misunderstood. Not sure. By “infancy narratives” they could be referring to some writings that are not considered inspired scripture. Don’t know, but if you go to the link done with a real quick search using the word “magi” in the online Catechism, it does not appear as if it is considered mythical at all.
As a Catholic Christian, this is the first time I have ever heard that the 3 wise men were considered mythical, and will completely continue to believe that it was a real historical event until shown the Catholic Church definitively teaches otherwise.

Were there links in any particular post?
What specifically do you find disturbing, (again really long thread, limited time during this advent season

The story of the three wise men, some believe it may not be COMPLETELY accurate historically, while still having happened, which is why some may not have voted for it. For example, you put in your poll the “3” wise men. We don’t know if there were in fact three at all. So you are asking for people to say that the story of SPECIFICALLY “3” wise men acually happened when we can not tell from scripture (or tradition?) that there were three.

In that post, there are no quotes from Catholic scholars only the opinion of one person who happens to be Catholic.
patg is not a “Catholic scholar” and frequently does not reflect actual catholic teachings but his own personal opinion. For example: This post in which patg states among other things,

It does seem a stretch to say a “totally different person” but the description of Jesus in the Synoptics starts from “Low Christology” while John takes the opposite approach, “High Christology”, emphasizing Jesus’ divinity. There is no contradiction it is the same person.
