Does anyone have an idea of the Hebrew/Aramaic word that Jesus would have used, which Matthew translated as “porneia”?
I actually think that the best translations of “porneia” could be “Fornication” in a single word, and “Sexual/Marital Sacrilege” in a phrase. Or even “Unlawful Matrimony” Porneia committed outside of Holy Matrimony is called Fornication, while Porneia committed within Holy Matrimony is called Adultery.
How can adultery be the key to divorcing one’s spouse?13:4 Love is always patient and kind; it is never jealous; love is never boastful or conceited; 13:5 it is never rude or selfish; it does not take offence, and is not resentful. 13:6 Love takes no pleasure in other people’s sins but delights in the truth; 13:7 it is always ready to excuse, to trust, to hope, and to endure whatever comes. 13:8 Love does not come to an end.
