You have to read all the Bible not just one or two verses, as revfred does in his post, taking verses from 1 Thessalonians out of context to try to make them mean something other than what they really mean.
Churches never mention these verses that state the believers will know more than the unbelierve*rs like when christ will return, ask your minister what these verses mean! I am sure that he will not have an answer.

1 Thessaloni*ans 5:
4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.

Amos 3:7
Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.
Yes, and you have to not pick and choose verses out of context to try to make them fit your heretical notions. 1 Thessalonians 5:1-2 says:
But of the times and seasons, brethren, you have no need that we write to you, for you yourselves know well that the day of the Lord is to come as a thief in the night.
“Thief in the night” means that nobody knows when it is coming - the point is to always live so that, if today is the day of the Lord, you will be ready for it. This is the sense of the expression “coming like a thief” - as in Revelation 3:3 “Remember therefore what thou hast received and heard, and observe it and repent. Therefore, if thou wilt not watch, I will come upon thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know at what hour I shall come upon thee.”

Amos and other OT prophets do prophesy impending tribulation for Israel because of their sinfulness - but even they never give dates or times. We know the Lord is returning - it’s the timing that nobody can foretell.

Also, revfred or anyone else that believes that the Apocalypse is imminent - you won’t be needing any money or property, so please give it all to me.

The Malachy prophecies are considered to be forgeries written long after Malachy was dead.

Also, only God knows when the end of days will come. Anybody who thinks or says they know is trying to equate themselves to God and should be ignored.
Jesus himself told people not to look for signs.
Right - I agree and I thought it was made clear. However, we do have scripture to know “how” the end of days will be unfolded. Giving a couple of good examples would be in Matthew and in Revelations 3 - all.

In Revelations, we read these exact words in the last days of Jesus (after the Last Supper) - he urged the apostles while they slept, to stay vigilant - awake and to not be weak - Mark 14:26-52 “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak” The flesh is very weak - but the spirit is willing to combat til the end but liken to Peter, we might become to frighten and scared. In the same thought as Matthew 19:25-26, 25 When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, “Who then can be saved? 26 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

What might seem impossible for us to sustain until the end will not be with God - for all things are possible with God…

Looking at Matthew 24:

13but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. 14And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

**I know that in the last line, it was a matter of debate; see Luke 20:35-26, “But those who are counted worthy to attain that age, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage; nor can they die anymore, for they are equal to the angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.”

Another passage in the same chapter:

15“So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’b spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand— 16then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17Let no one on the roof of his house go down to take anything out of the house. 18Let no one in the field go back to get his cloak. 19How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! 20Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath. 21For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again.

***22If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened. *

(coordinating with the passage on the 12 spies - Numbers 13:23, notes that the journey was shortened by God as he foresaw their downfall and subsequent proportionate punishment, assuming from this comment - we couldn’t bare the end of days, either nor the punishment **

23At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or, ‘There he is!’ do not believe it. 24For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles** to deceive even the elect—if that were possible. 2**5See, I have told you ahead of time.

Today the unsaved have turned this world into a nightmare where our children are not even safe in the classroom. Their desires have nearly wrecked this planet. Their greed has have left our financial organizations bankrupt. Their unwholesome was desires have turned TV and the arts into a toilet. Their crassness is applauded by the world while making a mockery of all that is good and Godly. The people are led by their own violence, lust and greed and sinfulness. Just see what is on television and learn what people desire. There is nothing wholesome or Godly left in their desires, that is why the end is near!

I see you are interested in material possessions right to the end.

Okay we’ve already got May 21, 2011 and December 22, 2012.
What’s your prediction or are you simply giving vague, general, unsupported comments about it being near?? May this year and December next year I would consider near. What is your date??

Okay Rev, so do you support May 21, 2011 as being “the day” or are you simply another “the glass is half-full” Protestant attempting to “save” us poor Catholics?

Daniel 2:44 - “In the time of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed”…kingdom-hence the phrase, “the kingdom of heaven” (Mt 3:2, Micah 4:7 and Joel 2:32 "as the LORD has said, among the survivors whom the LORD calls" - comparably to Acts 2:39 “The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off–for all whom the Lord our God will call.”).

My point - is that many events have to take place (first) before the end of days. Perhaps, we’re seeing the struggles and pain of our generation? So I can’t imagine, and not in my wildest dreams, how strong one would have to be to be saved, it would take an act of God to be alive in some countries. Look at what we are hearing and seeing over in Europe and in the Middle East, that being – Egypt, Spain, Portugal and in Ireland. The Holy Father had to make a trip over to Portugal because of the economic downfall, to quote from :ADDRESS OF HIS HOLINESS BENEDICT XVI

***"In truth, the times in which we live demand a new missionary vigour on the part of Christians who are called to form a mature laity, identified with the Church and sensitive to the complex transformations taking place in our world. " ***

All of these countries and governments are being taken apart (in other words, they don’t exist anymore) and a new economic system is replacing them with newer reforms – policies and a better (and I hope) administration. The government, or newer administration, have to answer for issues like jobs and the economy and solve them, or on the way to being solved. People need to get out of poverty and suffering - is it justified anger? Some people lost everything - so what is the message that is being sent out? …the end is near? Are we seeing part of the prophecies being fulfilled today? I’m sure we are… **Or **are we seeing people tired of the way they are living their lives, scared and don’t understand the violence around them and afar…but responding with this: May 21, 2011 - is the end of days? - this just pours more fear onto the public. Either someone doesn’t read scripture real well - or these activists who go around and tell people this - are going to suffer the humiliation that the “end” is not here….yet! Like one of the group members tells us ….know one knows neither hour nor day, only God. Our message, as Christians must be of hope and strength…My favorite of all the apostle is Paul, read his letters!!! For his endurance of faith and love…and my other all time favorite apostle, is Peter for burning love for Christ and his weakness (at first) but his unquenchable strength in each lesson and filling what Christ asked of him.

To quote from Romans 13: The Day Is Near
11 And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. 12 The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. 13 Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. 14 Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.

The Gospel must become more alive and active? Are they thirsty, as scripture ask? Isn’t that the message that we should be strong with?

“Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost.Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare. 3Give ear and come to me;hear me, that your soul may live.”

The message is simple - but the way/the path should be just as simple, also.

They are predicting the end of the world in four months yet according to the website, they are still accepting donations and planning mission trips.

What these verses mean is that believers know that Christ is returning. Unbelievers do not know of His Second Coming because they are unbelievers. It doesn’t mean that believers will get a private message with the date and hour of His return.
