Your ticker says it’s 9 months until your wedding day, what’s up with that? 😃 And if I may ask, when is the actual date that you want?

Edit to add:  $1600 to get married? Surely there’s something not right with that! Perhaps you can write to your bishop.
That’a around how much it costs to get married in our diocesean cathredral too…

We’ve been engaged for 2.5 yrs now. We set the date and something happens.

I’ve stuck with November since the beginning. But I changed the date out as we started listening to others encouraging us to finish school. So I moved it to Summer of 08. But the parish we want to join is booked from end of April to beginning of September! (This monsignor has done like 60K marriages; the parish is huge.

That’s when I got with the secretary who pointed out our original date, the 24th, was open. That was at the 3 month mark.

And here I am, left looking like a church hopping flake.

$1600 is a huge amount of money to me. But I hear all the churches around here are pretty comparable. The next most expensive is $800 according to a friend who got married there. It seems to be the norm.

Yup, it was what I feared. Monsignor refused to marry us on our date. He said a date (3 weeks later) will work fine though.

😦

The guy is a smart cookie and has been with the Church for a long time, so I guess is the growing up part where you learn you don’t get what you want.

Although what I really want to do is sue his secretary for assuring me I was good to go…I’ve dropped a thousand dollars total on the deposit for the reception and the invitations.
This makes it sound to me as if it is more the DATE that is the problem if he is perfectly willing to marry you three weeks later than your preferred date; does he just have a conflict? I can’t imagine that he would think that you would suddenly be ready for matrimony just 3 weeks after your date. Sounds odd to me. Perhaps if you use the same location and printing company you could recoup some of your deposit? (unless the invitations were printed, I guess…)
