There appears to be some disagreement among posters here as to whether or not it is right to boycott companies that sign on to NGLCC. Many who think boycotts are not okay quote section 2358 of the catechism, where it says that we must show utmost compassion to those with homosexual tendencies and also oppose all unjust discrimination. However, this isn’t grasping the big picture. Yes, we are supposed to oppose discrimination against homosexuals, be it employment, salaries, etc. But, we cannot support legalized homosexual marriage since it is intrinsically disordered and places a difficult road block in the way of chastity. Not only that, but it always follows suit with legalizing gay adoption, opening the door to child molestation.

And yes, the NGLCC does support gay marriage:
nglcc.org/BIZ/community/miniprofiles

Both JPII and Benedict XVI have been unequivocal in their opposition to homosexual marriage. Catechism section 2357 says a homosexual lifestyle cannot be approved. As a Catholic, I feel that I cannot morally purchase food from McDonalds since some of that money would go to an organization that fights for gay marriage.

Love the sinner, hate the sin.

Amen, and we who believe this can not afford to remain silent. I’m continuing to write McD’s to let them know why they lost my business.

Maybe I’ll join the AFA in boycotting McDonalds despite the fact that the AFA is a predominantly Christian organization *and *promotes Christian values.

I’m an ex-relativist and a casualty of relativism. I, also, struggle with " same sex orientation". I am opposed to " gay marriage" not only from a scriptural stanpoint but from an " anthropological" standpoint. Boycotts can be very effective! I haven’t spent money at Mc Doo’s in years and I won’t in the future.

I hope people realize that the execs at McDonald’s will not be the first affected by any protest or boycott. The front-line staff will be the first to lose jobs. Stores will close and many non-decision-makers will be affected. But the execs who make the decisions? They may not receive as big of a bonus they otherwise may have gotten.
And it seems a bit hypocritical to boycott McDonald’s when there are many other companies listed as Corporate Partners as well. Anyone on here using IBM or Intel products/hardware/software?

The point is that public support of the homosexual militia must be opposed.

My point is that by boycotting McDonald’s you may very well cost an innocent bystander to lose their job. Has that accomplished what you are setting out to do?

And my other point stands: it is hypocritical to type about boycotting McDonald’s while using Intel or IBM. Why just McDonald’s? What about Burger King, Pepsi products and Coors? What airline will you be taking the next time you need to fly? Hope it’s not American Airlines or Southwest Airlines. Have a Citicard Visa or Mastercard, American Express, Capital One: I suppose you will be cutting those cards up. Need meds? Better hope they’re not made from Merck or Phizer. Those that shop at Cub, Osco, Lucky, SuperValue and Albertson’s - where will you shop now? Need to make a call? I assume your carrier is not AT&T…

I wasn’t the one quoted, but here is one such promotion in California, SB 1437:

savecalifornia.com/getactive/sb1437analysis.php?PHPSESSID=89ea5dbcc5b0c65014def604b581c638

As amended, here is what SB 1437 will do:
*1. SB 1437 will force all California public schools to promote transsexuality, bisexuality, and homosexuality to schoolchildren as young as kindergarten. *

*2. SB 1437 will require textbooks to promote transsexuality, bisexuality, and homosexuality to schoolchildren. *

3. SB 1437 prohibits schools from sponsoring traditional school activities.

*4. SB 1437 prohibits public schools from teaching there is a natural family – a father, a mother, and their children. *
For one thing, this bill was vetoed over two years ago. For another, it is incorectly represented. In my experience, scare tactics designed to appeal to the emotions rather than the brain, such as the ones used above, tend to obscure if not completely mispepresent the news item(s) they are referring to.

Here’s what the VETOED bill was desinged to do, from the mouth of the designer:

Questions and Answers

Question: What does SB 1437 do?

Answer: SB 1437 would prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in California textbooks and school-sponsored activities, by adding these categories to an existing nondiscrimination law. SB 1437 would also mandate that the state curriculum include a discussion of the contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people to the history and development of California, as is currently required for other minority groups.

**Question: Why is SB 1437 necessary? **

*Answer: Biased or nonexistent representations of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people promote negative stereotypes and violence based on sexual orientation and gender identity. A bias-free and inclusive curriculum is important to the ongoing effort to make California schools safe for all children. Studies show that schools in which LGBT issues are reflected in the curriculum produce positive results for all youth: students report greater feelings of safety and more positive interactions with teachers. *

**Question: Does SB 1437 require that references to “husband and wife,” “mom and dad,” or “the family unit” be removed from California textbooks? **

*Answer: No, SB 1437 does not disparage heterosexual people or families with heterosexual parents. By adding sexual orientation and gender identity to nondiscrimination policies regarding instructional materials, SB 1437 prevents negative portrayals of people of all sexual orientations and gender identities. The bill does not prevent discussion of the many contributions of heterosexual people and families to California history, it simply ensures that the curriculum also include a discussion of the contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people to the state. *

**Question: Would SB 1437 prevent students from naming a “king and queen” at school dances such as prom? **

*Answer: No, nothing in SB 1437 would prevent students from voting a prom king and queen. SB 1437 would only ensure that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students, and students who are part of same-sex couples, be allowed to buy tickets for, attend, and fully participate in school dances the same way that their classmates can. All youth deserve the chance to partake in school traditions like prom and homecoming, regardless of their sexual orientation and gender identity. *

**Question: If passed, would SB 1437 require school districts to immediately replace all current curriculum? **

*Answer: No, SB 1437 would simply expand bias protections that curricula must meet when being adopted by the State Board of Education and local school districts. Thus, curricula would be revised through a gradual process as schools replace textbooks through the regular textbook adoption cycle. Only then would compliance be required. *

**Question: Does this bill require that students learn about historical figures’ sex lives? **

*Answer: SB 1437 would not mandate discussion of any historical figures’ sex lives. A person’s sexual orientation and gender identity are identity characteristics, not sexual behaviors. The sex lives of historical lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people would not be taught, any more than the curriculum currently discusses the sexual lives of heterosexual historical figures. The bill simply ensures a fair representation of California’s historical and contemporary diversity, by acknowledging that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people have made valuable contributions to the state’s rich history. *

  1. If McDonald’s loses busines due to its direct support and promotion of evil, and employees become casualties of that business loss, is it really the consumers’ fault? No, indeed. In fact, it is Corporate HQ’s responsibility to protect those jobs, not the public’s. And if they want to keep their employees safe, they ought not form such dangerous allegiances.
  2. If or when individual stores begin to close nation-wide, and research shows that McDonald’s is quickly losing its reputation as a “family” business, you can be sure Corporate HQ will have a vested interest in re-thinking its involvment in the culture war.

My point is that by boycotting McDonald’s you may very well cost an innocent bystander to lose their job. . . …
And create a job for him by patronizing a more reputable establishment and expanding their business…

Very well-said.

👍 :clapping:

I like MickeyD’s. The fries are the best. I drive a Ford car. Everyone in my family drives a Ford. Our first computer was an IBM. I prefer diet Coke over Pepsi. Most drug companies make birth control pills and 99% of drug stores sell them along with condoms. I have also seen condoms in regular grocery stores. I love Starbucks it’s a great treat. MickeyD’s are not hurting in NC and Starbucks are popping up all over the east coast here. I like Wal-Mart…you can purchase over 400 prescription drugs for $4.00 now that is a deal. I don’t see anything wrong with the Susan Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

I guess maybe a cave and small plot of land to grow your own food is all that is left. You can take this boycotting thing but so far…it’s the trickle down theory. Ford is not hurting because of any boycott…it’s the gas prices…same with every other car manufacturer.

I think it is unfair to folks who come on here to read things like this and not know that there IS NOT any list for Catholics to boycott. It’s an urban legend…I would love to see a Catholic snopes…so we can stop scaring people

The homosexuals are not out to get you. The sky is not falling.

I beg to differ, and so do the figures. During the months when OneMillionMoms and OneMillionDads held the boycott against Ford, their sales plummeted, and they lost more money every quarter. I know, because I watched the reports come in as it was happening. The AFA boycott hurt Ford tremendously, so much so that it agreed to back down and remain neutral in the culture war. That’s a big step, considering that they were actively supporting Gay Pride events left and right.

I’m sorry some folks would rather not give up their favorite cheeseburgers and lattes, when there are worthy competitors down the street who don’t go throwing their corporate support behind perversity. Those folks deserve our business. McDonald’s and their ilk deserve to hear the voice of the public, while there is still a Christian voice to be heard in this nation.

Anyone who is interested in seeing the significant drop in Ford sales since the AFA boycott can go here: afa.net/emails/transform.asp?x=ford_020408&s=browser&y=2008&m=02

During the 23 months since the start of the boycott, Ford only broke even or made gains of 10% three times. And three other months, sales were down 20%. I’d call that making a dent (no pun intended).
Sure, it’s made a dent.
I’m not sure of the tone of your message (happy, sad, matter-of-fact) but please keep in mind the many people now out of work. Ford Motor Company execs remain employed and paid well. People losing their livelihood is not something to celebrate.

It is without question a tragedy that Ford has chosen to put its employees at risk by espousing dangerous social policies. However, one can miss the forest for the trees. As Joe Kelley reminded us, those people who would have bought cars from Ford must have bought them somewhere, and whatever reputable company got their business is now able to take on new employees. Free trade has a way of balancing itself out.

Furthermore, consider what happens if we take this line of thinking to its extreme. For example, if abortion and contraception were made illegal tomorrow, think of all the poor people Merck and Pfizer and
Planned Parenthood would have to let go.

I disagree with your statement, and Joe Kelley’s, that since people are going elsewhere to reputable companies, these companies now can take on new employees. And what if there are no other auto manufacturers with plants near the closed Ford plants? Would your response be for them to move where the jobs are?

And are you using any IBM or Intel products? Do you use any products of the other Corporate Partners? If so, you are being most hypocritical.
Please go and check the partners. If you use no products or services of any of these then I apologize.

It would be hard for me to boycott McDonalds since the last time I was in one was in 2001 in Rome and I only went in then because they had free restrooms.
