How is going to a dance together “two boys acting as male and female”? In WW2 many soldiers overseas danced together and that wasn’t immoral, many women in the US danced together and that wasn’t immoral.
It’s immoral to set this up as a school policy because a dance simulates a dating situation, and dating gets its design from – and is a precursor to – marriage, which can only be between a male and female.

And… I doubt that McQuaid High is a wartime situation.

Perhaps there is a shortage of girls in this town?

A dance is just a dance.

I have known girls who went together to dances in groups, as friends. But that was not in derogation of the opposite sex. It merely allowed them the freedom to dance with any boy they chose.

I agree, Jim. And if that’s how the McQuaid leadership had presented it, there wouldn’t be much of an issue.
The school in question was clearly not talking about the girls’ group situation. They were making a point that a male/male relationship in the context of a homosexual attraction is to be celebrated, and that is quite opposed to Catholic teaching and natural law, despite the good intentions to be “inclusive.”

Either way, it can’t be denied that with a social event such as a formal dance, we are teaching adolescents about the model cell for society, which is based on a male/female relationship.

What I don’t understand is why the priest didn’t just didn’t have them go as individuals and not as a couple.Letting them go as a couple does give the appearance that the good Father is condoning homosexual behavior no matter how much he says other wise.

I believe he has good intentions, but I think his decision does more harm than good.

Then anyone can go with any number of males/females/animals, right?
Yes except for animals, most places have a no pets allowed rule and it’s normally really hard to dance with animals.

Yuk, yuk… but let me rephrase the point. If a dance had nothing at all to do with sexual preferences or the sex of the participants, as I think you were claiming in post #22, then the priest would have had no need to issue a statement, right?

However, if you read his statement, he was clearly giving a nod to same-sex attraction and the ability to attend a structured dance. So there is either a problem with acceptance of Catholic morality, or a problem of addressing an issue that was never an issue to begin with.

Are you serious? There is nothing moral about affirming sinful situations.

There is no rational way anyone can make this consistent with Catholic moral teaching.

It is only the sex that is isinful.
This is not correct! Scripture upholds and church teaching confirms that sexual impurities against the 6th & 9th commandments (most always grievous sins) can be committed in the heart by simply lusting.

Why would he contact a radio show? Is this some kind of stunt to test the school?

And a person called Rush Henritetta started a peitition to allow the two to go to the prom?

Here are contacts that I urge people to charitably request a look into this:

I’m in the area where this is happening. I am strongly thinking of writing in.

I have a funny picture in my head. I attended a Catholic high school and whenever there was a dance, the nuns who taught us insisted we partake of homemade punch and cookies before we went to the dance. Heaven help anyone who didn’t show up at the convent for this big event, as they kept tabs on who came and who didn’t. (We suspected they did this so they could check out our dresses to make absolutely certain the bodices were not too low.)

In this McQuaid scenario, I can just see the face of Sister Mary George now …😊

Perhaps the boys asked because they weren’t sure?

two people dancing in a non-sexual way is not sinful.
There is no rational way anyone can make this consistent with Catholic moral teaching.
Dancing in a non-erotic way is not a topic of Catholic moral teaching.

True, I suppose sexually acting on it would have been a better phrasing.
