I’m assuming it’s for security.

But if I don’t wish to comply, what are they going to do? Not let me work out?

Really?

My point is still this: even if they need it so they know I’m who I say I am, so what??? I paid my money to work out. Why do I need to prove I’m who I say I am to sweat?
Again, why don’t you ask someone in management?

Chances are, he told her to tell you it’s required.
She.

Her boss is a woman, BEL.

You should know that women are quite capable of owning businesses these days.

Don’t ever just assume that because it’s a* boss* it’s a man. 🙂

#justsayin

I think you won’t make that mistake again with me. 😉
It wasn’t a “mistake”. In my experience, most gym owners are male, save for a small appointment-only training gym that wouldn’t need your picture.🤷 And even if that weren’t the case, I generally default to male pronouns when it isn’t clear (animals, professions, my unborn baby, etc).

I would advise thicker skin. If the picture issue and masculine pronouns get you this worked up, you should probably consider why.

Oh, I use male pronouns all the time. And sometimes refer to bosses as males.

Just don’t assume, ok? 🙂

6 pages on someone whose basic problem is having difficulty navigating a social situation with a receptionist at a gym.

It’s pretty clear the OP has made a trivial thing a big issue and is determined to make not only this poor receptionist’s life uncomfortable but also get as many other people as possible wrapped around the axle about it.

That’s wonderful, BTW, that you refer to your unborn baby as “he”. That indicates that you understand it’s a totally distinct human person from you.

👍

Did you see my little caveat that I understand that this is minutiae? Yeah?

Also, you are aware that I don’t have control in getting “as many other people as possible” interested in posting their thoughts on this, yeah?

6 pages. 1 page. No response at all. Not my doing.

Also, it’s a mis-statement to say I am “determined” to make this poor receptionist’s life uncomfortable.

I have no such “determination” whatsoever.

If you don’t want to have your photo taken I would suggest changing gyms.

Is the issue more about the photo,or is it more about how to deal with “control freak” type of people?

If the receptionist keeps " badgering" you because it somehow making an impediment to her work, then I think it would be only fair if you allowed the photo next time or changed gyms.

If it’s rather though, that she keeps insisting not because it affects her job but because she wants to be bossy and has “control issues” then I would consider whether you want to keep giving your money to a business that offers this low level of customer service.

No, there is no contract. I just purchase “punchcards” for 5, 10 or 20 visits.
Even with casual visits, there can still be terms and conditions attached to your purchase of a punchcard.

Even something as simple as, for example, a sign at the front desk saying something like “Customers agree to be bound by our terms of service which can be found on our website”, would normally put the onus on customers to check out the terms and conditions before their purchase, and abide by them if they do purchase.

Oh, I haven’t said it’s the receptionist’s fault.

She could just tell the owner: “This woman doesn’t want her picture taken” and then all of us would be happy.

Just like the instructor could say: “This woman doesn’t want to exercise bra-less”, and then all of us could just go on an work out like we want to.
But you have called her “pushy” for asking you to do something that she’s required to ask. Why don’t you tell the owner you don’t want a photo?

 That’s probably the strangest and most condescending thing I’ve ever had someone say to me on CAF.

And I’m still going to default to masculine pronouns even if the person I’m unclear about is an owner or a boss.

Logic is condescending to you?

How peculiar.

Or an unborn baby. Person. Right?

Let’s make this very clear: I didn’t call her pushy.

I think she is.

But if you’re under the misapprehension that I called her this, and this instigated some sort of war between us, please let go of that idea.

She has no idea whatsoever, unless she comes to this forum and reads this thread, that I consider her anything negative.
