Tomorrow, Friday, June 29, the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, those who abstain from meat, either by choice or by obligation, may eat meat. This is because the Solemnity is a day of precept (holy day of obligation) and a I Class feast in the traditional calendar.
 
But not a Holy Day of Obligation in the USA. Correct otherwise.
 
Even thought it is not a holy day of obligation in the states it is still a solemnity, and we don’t fast on a solemnity.
 
Nice! I was going to save this leftover General Tso’s Chicken for Saturday but no need!

Huzzah!

Clarification, though: even when a solemnity is not, in any region, a holy day of obligation, there’s still no obligation or expectation that we abstain from meat or do penance.

For instance, March 25 is the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord. It is not a holy day of obligation according to canon law. Yet if it falls on a Friday - even during Lent - there is no obligation or exhortation to abstain or do penance.

Well this traditional Catholic is sitting at work thinking no one should have to be stuck at their desk 16 hours straight. While St. Peter holds the keys to heaven seems he can’t unlock the fetters that chain me to my desk 😦

Some how I doubt that’s what you meant :rolleyes:

I said 1st Vespers too. I also said Compline in bed with a bowl of seedless grapes :p, then I read a chapter from the Rule of St. Benedict and conked out. It’s my work-from-home day so I slept in and said Matins (combined OOR-Lauds) at 8 am instead of OOR/Vigils at 6 and Lauds at 7.

And now I’m having a great solemnity working with my laptop from my front porch while nursing a large coffee.

It doesn’t get any better 😃
 
Yes, I can eat more than chips and tortillas at the Mexican buffet my brother wants to go to! Not expecting much, but how often do you hear of a Mexican buffet?
 
Omgosh, I had a fried chicken salad with bacon last night that would have blown your mind. I knew there was reason I chose St. Peter as my patron! 😉
 
Even though one doesn’t have to abstain on a solemnity, it doesn’t mean one is forced to eat meat either.
 
Right on the mark, TL. We are all creatures of habit; we had our clam chowder and an open face sandwich with tomatoe topped with chedar and baked for a few minutes in the oven. It didn’t feel right doing anything different than we usually do. :o
