Now, isn’t this something? None dare call it ‘fake’.

" Fox News published digitally altered and misleading photos on stories about Seattle’s Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ) in what photojournalism experts called a clear violation of ethical standards for news organizations.

As part of a package of stories Friday about the zone, where demonstrators have taken over several city blocks on Capitol Hill after Seattle police abandoned the East Precinct, Fox’s website for much of the day featured a photo of a man standing with a military-style rifle in front of what appeared to be a smashed retail storefront.

The image was actually a mashup of photos from different days, taken by different photographers — it was done by splicing a Getty Images photo of an armed man, who had been at the protest zone June 10, with other images from May 30 of smashed windows in downtown Seattle. Another altered image combined the gunman photo with yet another image, making it appear as though he was standing in front of a sign declaring “You are now entering Free Cap Hill.”

Are there consequences for doing this? They’re supposed to be a news organization, right?

Edit:Man, they aren’t even trying to hide the fact they doctored these lol. I could do better, and I have the image editing skills of a blind man.

Well at least they acknowledged they screwed up:

“A FoxNews.com home page photo collage which originally accompanied this story included multiple scenes from Seattle’s ‘Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone’ and of wreckage following recent riots,” the note read. “The collage did not clearly delineate between these images, and has since been replaced. In addition, a recent slideshow depicting scenes from Seattle mistakenly included a picture from St. Paul. Fox News regrets these errors.”

Hopefullly Fox will follow up with this story qith an explanation of how this mistake was made and how they will try to prevent it from happening again.

Their statement kind of side-steps the issue. It looks like the outlet purposefully put out inaccurate images and was caught. It was worse than ‘unclear delineation’.

yes, it is no surprise to anyone who reads your posts here that you would feel this qay.

It is always disappointing when a new outlet does this. Why don’t they learn? Doctoring, splicing, or pretending a photo is something it isn’t is the media attempting to make you believe what they want, rather than letting you decide what you want to believe. ABC did it recently, Reuters and the LA Times did it, and that is just a few from the last 15 years.

I get mistakes happen, but this is why editors and quality control arms exist in these companies.

ABC did it recently
That’s a false equivalence though. ABC didn’t fabricate anything, they got fooled by someone else misrepresenting a video. Fox themselves deliberately fabricated these images.

Also “social media” is not a news organization, fake stuff circulates there all the time because there is no editorial oversight. Oh, maybe you were trying to say that Fox news is no better than social media?

I thought FOX was the fair and balanced alternative to the “mainstream media”.

It might surprise some of you, but I don’t think this is such a big deal.

It was wrong, yes.

Was it misleading? I don’t know. all of the parts of the collage were apparently from the scene, so its not like Fox was trying to make it look worse than it was.

Some journalists idea of integrity is different from others.

How passive aggressive! I guess if I felt differently then what Fox did would be ok?

May we deal with the subject now?
