Wow, that’s about the most misleading LifeSiteNews article I’ve read, which is saying something. The idea that reporting the news as it develops is “stage managing” it is really just stunning. If that’s true, it’s unfortunate that the media also felt the need to stage manage Hurricane Katrina, the 9/11 attacks, the Clinton-Lewinsky affair, genocide in Rwanda, etc.
I would not put it past the MSM. They have made up or manipulated news in the past to fit their agenda. If they can create unrest to further their agends (i.e. get people elected that would oppose Bush and the Republicans), I would not put it past them.

Whatever you may fear about what the nefarious and conspiratorial media might do, LifeSiteNews makes a specific allegation that the news was manipulated - then gives as evidence what appears to be normal coverage of a developing story. I find that rather dishonest.

Compare these apparently false allegations to what the newspapers they criticized did: Reported truthfully on the speech, focussed on the most interesting and unusual aspect of the speech, reported on the reaction worldwide, and in editorials suggested the pope apologize in order to quiet the uproar. The pope apparently agreed with the suggestion. I find nothing disreputable in these actions.

Seems in the last day or so the media is toning it down a little. Perhaps the New York Times and others have realized attacking the Pope during election season will not help the campaigns of Ned Lamont and other liberals.

Today the focus is on another controversial statement, this time by the president of Venezuela. Once again, the news media is mostly ignoring the rest of the speech given by Hugo Chavez, and focussing on the isolated statement he made about Bush. If the original conspiracy theory posited in this thread is that the media was trying to embarass or denigrate the pope by selectively quoting him, then it would appear the media is at it again, this time trying to denigrate the biggest Latin American thorn in George Bush’s side.:whacky:
