The bishop of the local Mostar-Duvno diocese has issued a statement expressing concern about statements issued by Cardinal Christoph Schönborn during a visit to Medjugorje last week and …

The Cardinal who may be on the shortlist of favorites as next Pope apparently spoke positively of the events around Medj and didn’t even inform the local bishop of coming. It is funny because it was merely supposed to be a private visit and the Vatican has taken over the investigation of the Medj. apparitions. Rumor was that it would be done and finished by now. Something is up as the Vatican has still not condemned Medj. In any event, one must be careful discussing unapproved apparitions according to the rules of this Forum so not entirely sure why it was posted.

There has been investigations and they concluded there is no evidence that anything supernatural occurred. The previous and present Bishop of Mostar advise against them. If anyone wishes to hear the facts just read this statement made by Bishop Pavao Zanic of Mostar in 1990 giving his reasons for not believing the apparitions are authentic:

The present bishop has released his own statements as well.

I don’t think they can render a final decision until the apparitions cease.

There’s been much controversy over this and about the biases of the Bishop of Mostar who apparently doesn’t believe in any appritions, even those that are Church approved. I can personally say that reading about Mary’s appritions and warnings from Lourdes and even Medj. have done much to help me fully recover my faith. So there are good fruits being bourne. Guess we’ll only know once everything that was predicted comes to pass. Thoguh given the nature of some of them, I can’t say I’m too eager to find out… 😊

Bishop Peric notes that he has also sent a private letter to Cardinal Schonborn…

This seems to me to have been a very bold and unfortunate move on the part of Cardinal Schonborn; Bishop Peric is right to set the record straight.

Cristoph Cardinal Schoenborn had absolutely no authority to visit Medjugorje unannounced, give a ‘glowing’ speech to hundreds of Medjugorje fanatics, and not, as a matter of professional courtesy, contact Bishop Peric that he was coming. Bishop Peric found out via the newspapers. Schoenborn basically ignored the bishop of the diocese. What message does THAT send?

I’m really surprised that the pope didn’t reprimand him personally in some way. He should be. He has brought great dishonor on the Church.

I cannot say I know the beliefs of Bishop Peric but Bishop Zanic, who was certainly the most qualified to make a judgement on the apparitions certainly believed in approved apparitions. I think everyone should read the link I posted to Bishop Zanic’s statement on the so called apparitions. Learning the actual facts and not the account of a website would bring a clearer picture. There is a reason they are not approved and the same goes for Garabandal.

ONE
I’m perplexed to hear Cardinal Schonborn visited Medjugorje unannounced. It has been said that Bishop Peric found out via the newspapers??? If that is what happened, I’d have to say Cardinal Schonborn’s was quite disrespectful. He should apologize to Bishop Peric. It’s disturbing to see that a rift like this is publicized.

TWO
It also bother’s me to learn the Cardinal said “when I see the fruits of Medjugorje back at home I can only say that the tree is surely good” While this is correct, he failed to say anything about the “bad fruits”. The Cardinal is a Dominican. The motto of that order is Veritas or Truth. Leaving out important facts blurs the truth and men of good standing all thirst for the truth.

THREE
Cardinal Schonborn says,
A. "I would advise for patience. The Mother of God is so patient with us that for nearly 29 years here, in a very direct way, she is showing her closeness and care for the parish of Medjugorje and numerous pilgrims. We can peacefully wait and have patience! Twenty nine years is a long period of time for us, but not such a long period to our God!”
B. “Who could make these things up?” he asked at one point after his arrival. “Who could invent this thing? Man? No, this is not a human act.”
C .The cardinal also called Medjugorje a “superpower” of God’s mercy.
I agree with everything he says here. BUT, when he says not a human act, be aware that there could be diabolical forces also at work as well.

For me, I strongly believe in the Fatima and Lourdes apparitions.
BUT, I have very serious doubts about the Medjugoire apparitions. I support the idea that they are of a diabolical nature. It’s truth mixed with lies. One day the truth will come out; perhaps through a new legitimate seer, or perhaps through common sense. The head of this beast will eventually be crushed through the intervention of the Great Mother of God. Too many people are praying at Medjugorie (even if they are gullible and not to their fault). THOSE PRAYERS WILL NOT BE IGNORED!!!

Cardinal Schonborn is showing respect to the faithful, speaking of patience, but certainly he is not making any proclamation regarding the veracity of the alleged apparation. Medjugorje and Garabandal are ongoing events which must reach completion before they can be fully comprehended, and thereby, properly judged. Also, is there evidence that the Pope was unaware of The Cardinal’s visit, and by extension, what he was planning to say?

Just search Garabandal on the catholic answers website. It seems that everybody loves the stories and messages in these events, but they do not want to hear the facts behind the investigations. The Bishops of both the areas in question have declared the apparitions to be false. Numerous facts have come to the light about “seers” and their co-conspirators. There have been several predictions proven to be false. Not to mention the instances of disobedience toward the bishops by seers and laymen alike, lies told by some of the seers, messages that contradict catholic teaching and so on.

Read this E-Letter by Karl Keating regarding Garabandal:

Where is his showing respect for the teaching office of the Bishop of the diocese?
And he DID make a proclamation regarding the veracity of the alleged apparitions - “Who could make this up?” he asks. He deserves ecclesiastical censure.

A question cannot be construed as a proclamation. Also, I made no remark regarding the Bishop at all. Please, do not take my post out of context.

It was Cardinal Schonborn who allowed Sarah Brightman to parade around St. Stephens Cathedral in a bustier filming her performance from the “Symphony” tour. At least there were candles on the alter to keep her from dancing on top of it. I am a fan of neither from now on. youtube.com/watch?v=8eftt4-2WDU&feature=related

Reading this news, and as someone who is not that up on such matters, the name of the Cardinal - ’ something about it ’ seemed special ; checking his background brought in some connections - as expert on matters of The Eastern Churches … someone who has supported the move to invite and proclaim Blessed Mother as The New Eve, spiritual Mother of all …thus to celebrate the 'superabundance ’ of God’s mercy …his important role in The Church …may be there is a good connection in all these areas …an invitation for all , all over the world , to be able to overlook at what we can easily accuse each other of …and instead to be able to see each other as children of The Mother …a Mother of ALL the living …

Is there not something that moves in our hearts when we see each other with that identity …something that help us to overlook or be merciful , with lots more ease …

And the reported contradictions and problems with some key people of these events too may be to help us to see - we do not have to focus on those too much …but on who we are …who our Father is …through our Mother …

Such an acceptance …would it not be in accordance with The Father’s will …’ Thy will be done …’ - we have been asking …

The empahsis being on the grace of the sacramental life there …thus may be even taking focus off, of the human elements , the visionaries and all the conflicts related to same …thus even imparting may be a deeper needed meaning and message for our times … that those of us who are not so good …not so saintly …are part of the sinful humanity …we all still have a role …with our Mother …after all, when one has such a glorious Mother, who wants to look at the lacks …except to repent at a personla level, trusting in His mercy …

Could this be too the glorious ending of the parable of the prodigal son …and either East or West could easily interchange and take up the roles …as well as each of us too …
Code:
In the parable , our Lord had left us , with The Father pleading with the older brother ...
Would He have not wanted each of us His prodigal children, to have the dignity of inviting in The Mother … who in turn helps to invite in the older brother … and to help the younger and all the rest …to get ready… for The Banquet …and all shall be well !

peace !

Sorry, the Church won’t declare “Medjugorje” to be authentic just because it would be “nice” if it were true…The alleged apparitions either happened or they did not, and the winner in all of this should be the TRUTH. That is what would really be nice.
