You may have" heard" that there is much is much divisiveness and disobediance but I would say this is false. Everything I have read and seen indicates that anyone involved at the parish level or with the visonaries has always stated that one must always be ocedient to the church no matter what.I have heard that the apparitions have caused much divisiveness and disobedience. Due to the unorthodox nature of these “apparitions,” I’m inclined to believe that they are false.
Here is one, single example that could be multiplied again and again:You may have" heard" that there is much is much divisiveness and disobediance but I would say this is false.
Bishop Zanic initially gave personal approval of the apparitions. That changed though. I’ve read two reasons why it changed.Hasn’t the bishop of the area been saying this since the 80’s? ophthalmologist
One, that the centuries old conflict between the bishop of Mostar-Duvno and the Franciscans had gotten to the point where the bishop had suspended two of the Franciscans, and Our Lady did not approve when she was asked about it by the visionaries.“I am deeply convinced that no child who says that they have seen Our Lady has been talked into doing so. If we were speaking about one child only, one might say he could be stubborn and that not even the police could make the child renounce what he said. But six innocent, simple children in the space of half an hour, would, if they were pushed, admit all. None of the priests, I guarantee, had any idea of putting the children up to something… I am also convinced that the children are not lying. The children are only speaking out what’s in their hearts… It is certain: the children are not lying”. (From a sermon given on the feast of St. James, the patron saint of Medjugorje, on the 25th of July 1981). In “Glas Koncila”, the Croatian national catholic newspaper, 16th of August 1981, he stated; “It is definite that the children were not incited by anyone, and especially not by the church, to lie.”
The second reason being pressure from the communist government. Three Franciscans - Fr. Zovko, Fr. Vlasic and Fr. Krizic were put in prison for acting favorably toward the apparitions. Here the case of the two Franciscans Ivica Vego and Ivan Prusina plays an important role. Both chaplains were suspended by Bishop Zanic because of disobedience and, as a result of his pressure, they were expelled from the Order. In this matter, the Gospa supposedly said that the bishop had acted too hastily, that both were innocent. From there on, it seems, the bishop turned into a radical opponent of Medjugorje. In the statement of 1984, he writes, “The attacks of Our Lady against the bishop and the defence of the ex-Franciscans of Mostar were the strongest proofs against the authenticity of the apparitions”.

In an official memorandum of the Vatican State Secretary Office No. 150.458, on the 1st of April 1985, Cardinal Casaroli charged Croatian Cardinal Franjo Kuharic to convey to bishop Zanic that he should “suspend the airing of his own personal statements and renounce making judgements, until such time as all the elements could be conclusively gathered together, and the happenings could be clarified”, because bishop Zanic’s statement, “The actual position…” had had considerable reverberations in the press. Unfortunately, this request didn’t have very much response with the Bishop.

total-croatia-news.com/lifestyle/17006-local-bishop-there-were-no-apparitions-of-virgin-mary-in-medugorjeBishop Peric also spoke about the “ambiguous phenomena” connected with alleged apparitions, claiming that the “woman who appears” in Medugorje behaves quite differently from the true Mary, Mother of God, according to apparitions which the Church has so far recognized as authentic. “She often does not speak first, she has a strange laugh, she disappears after certain questions and then returns; she obeys the ‘visionaries’ and priests to come down from the hill to the church, although reluctantly. She is not sure how much time she will be visible, allows some of the visionaries to stand on her veil which is on the ground, allows others to touch her clothes and body. This really is not Our Lady from the Gospel”, said Bishop Ratko Peric.
The Commission has concluded but the report is still on PF desk. Pilgrims are free to go to Medjugorje even with priests and Bishops.Isn’t the Vatican still investigating it and recommended we stay away until a final decision is made?
In this I agree! His word is not final, but it is definitive for now. The commission may override that decision, or confirm it. The future is not known.
As to incidents, while I do not want to wave them off, I do not put any faith in them, until they are confirmed and the vision is accepted.
Haven’t seen any announcement from a member of the Congregation or the Pope that it has been approved on Vatican media. Statements made by individual priests and bishops on the matter are not a “official” statement from the Vatican. The Commission has concluded but the report is still on PF desk. As a matter of fact there are so many preists there at any given time that confessinals are lined up in with preists in every language. COnfessions go on all day there!![]()
People are free to go to Medjugorje but not in an official church capacity. Are you suggesting all these preists and Bishops are not acting in good faith!Haven’t seen any announcement from a member of the Congregation or the Pope that it has been approved on Vatican media. Statements made by individual priests and bishops on the matter are not a “official” statement from the Vatican.
According to the last letter from Pope Benedict on the matter, he advised against visiting Medjugorje until a final decision has been made. It’s dangerous for your spiritual health to revere an ALLEGED Marian vision that hasn’t been officially confirmed by the Vatican. That said, people will use their free will.
Bishop Peric said a study of the transcripts of interviews with the six alleged visionaries from that first week give several motives for suspicion if not total doubt about the supernatural nature of events.
First, he said, the Mary of Medjugorje usually speaks only when spoken to, “she laughs in a strange way, in response to certain questions she disappears and then returns, and she obeyed the ‘seers’ and the pastor who made her come down from the hill into the church even against her will. She does not know with certainty how long she will appear, she allows some of those present to step on her veil lying on the ground, to touch her clothes and her body. This is not the Gospel Mary.”
Any bishops or higher prelates who go there are giving Bishop Peric a slap across the face. They should know that! Pope Benedict made Cardinal Schonborn send Bp Peric an apology. Are you suggesting all these preists and Bishops are not acting in good faith!
