There is talk among the legal experts re: ethics of Gloria Allred exposing a client to criminal charges. This hispanic woman was hired thru an agency & paid $23 per hour, using a false SS # & signing legal documents stating she was a legal resident of the state of Calif. Meg Whitman is a pro-choice type of Republican — I think she has written something against late term abortions.
Preposterous, that Meg or her husband would be held accountable-for the intentional deception of an Illegal Alien.

How in the world could someone be held accountable for another’s actions?

Crazy, man.

God Bless.
+Jesus, I Trust In You!

Allred was eviscerated on Greta last night. Video here:
hotair.com/archives/2010/10/02/video-greta-vs-gloria/

Greta makes some very good points, that I am sure Beau would appreciate.
Greta van Susteren calls Gloria Allred “insane” and “delusional,” and even gets Allred to admit at one point that her client, illegal immigrant Nicki Santillan, won’t ever end up in court on this complaint. Susteren calls Allred’s ethics into question for exposing the woman and her children — “putting a big neon sign” on them, in van Susteren’s words — for a case that Allred not only admits she can’t win but won’t even survive to an actual trial. Meanwhile, Allred keeps insisting that Meg Whitman lied about the letter that her husband saw seven years ago, and van Susteren keeps insisting that any judge or jury would laugh her out of court for that assertion on the basis of a quick note scribbled on the letter by her spouse… Greta blasts Allred for harping on how wealthy Whitman and her husband are. “It’s not class warfare,” van Susteren scolds, accusing Allred of “blackmail.” Or, perhaps, it’s when Allred instructs van Susteren what “Latinos” think, in a moment of transparent paternalism. There are enough beat-down points here to satisfy anyone.
It would appear to me that Whitman’s husband, 7 years ago, may have seen the letter, didn’t quite know what to make of it, and asked Nicki Santillan, who submitted the paperwork (or had it submitted for her), in the first place to look into it. It is very possible Whitman did not know of the letter. But realize that the letter just says that there was a discrpency between the name and the SSN. It didn’t say what that was and Santillan went by a number of different names. The letter also specifically said that it was not a notice of the employee being in the country illegally and that the employer should not take action against the employee because of the letter. The idea of calling it a “red flag” letter gives it more clout than it actually had. Anyway, I would think the Whitman’s would think this is something the Santillan’s employment agency or Santillan would have to deal with.

I’ve seen a lot of “October suprises” in my time. IMHO, this one is a dud.

OK, so your maid has an extremely heavy accent, refuses to leave the country with you to care for your children on trips, and has paperwork from the government that says her SS# doesn’t match her identity… but you delegate that person to “check on it” and have no suspicions? And your both have advanced degrees? Right.

And if my jewels seem to disappear whenever I’m out of the house and my gardener is alone there, I should delegate him to figure out where my stuff went to? Right.

I met Ms. Whitman - I work full-time selling on ebay, and I can tell you nobody likes the woman. She is fake. She is arrogant and entitled (just google about her sons… unbelievable), and she cares not a whit for any “little” people. She has hardly ever voted. She wants to slash and burn agencies to help children, the disabled and the elderly and has no history of philanthropy or caring about her fellow man. Her hand-groomed replacement at ebay is driving the company into the ground following policies she herself set in place. She outsourced customer service overseas and her replacement (while she still served on the Board of Directors of ebay) laid off thousands of US employees.

Her platform is to cut government spending and not be a political insider - the same platform as our current Republican governor who now admits it CAN’T work. You can cut all medicare, all colleges, all spending for disabled and elderly and still not make a dent in the deficit. Like Arnold, she is claiming there is government waste. Unfortunately, Arnold’s own people have admitted that once in office, they could find hardly any - not even enough to chop 1% off the deficit. But Ms. Meg thinks she can do better?

Since both candidates are pro-abortion, then we are free to either not vote or to vote for the candidate who will do the least damage to the weakest among us.

She has. She is against that and taxpayer funding.

I heard that the $23 an hour went to the agency, not to the maid. The maid made 1/2 of that, and she had to pay her own mileage and use her own vehicle for errands. The cost of living in Atherton is one of the highest in the country, so she wasn’t really making out like a bandit. And no medical insurance or pension or such.

Since the Meg Whitman I know from ebay has lied often about things she said she would do or not do, I have give no credibility to her new-found interest in late-term abortions. Nor, with her lack of knowledge of the political process, would I suspect she could effect any changes she did desire. All she has ever cared about was making a lot of money.

Correction - a friend from the area has informed me that the maid was making half of $23 an hour - or about $11.50 an hour, she was making about 50 cents more per hour than working at McDonalds in that neighborhood, minus the free uniform and free lunch.

Just to put a little perspective into it. I would dearly love to make $23 an hour again. Had to leave the corporate life when my son was born with a disability.

While the criticisms on Meg may be true ( I don’t really like Meg but her positions she’s campaigning on are better than the Dems) What’s in dispute here is the paper-thin, “maid controversy” I don’t believe Jerry Brown is much an alternative, to someone who at least has the ego to think they might be able to slash spending.

California’s system, will only work when there are enough in the legislature willing to work with a Governor to address the budget issues.

Yes, Meg may be (or may not be) guilty of those things. (I don’t know her and I doubt I’d be convinced by hearsay.) But those anecdotes (true or not) do not make this situation , any more her fault.
The Maid falsified her documents, and knew she was illegal using a phony SSN, which is the bottom line she put herself in the situation, and now is at the mercy of Gloria Allred exploitations.

Yes because true employers with advanced degrees, check on every little minutiae and detail of all letters that come their way, and don’t have secretaries, or never delegate things in their life.
Um, who is better to know their personal information than the employee?

It’s also the Maids fault for not learning English well enough to handle paperwork in America. In this specific case, Whitman can’t be held accountable for an individual that went through the system and put herself at the mercy, of an employer to work in an area at a high cost of living for a job that DOES entail, watching the House and possibly kids.

I don’t see how Meg and her husband can be faulted, no matter how messed up they may be in “morals.”
One can question the character of an individual all they want, but if an injustice is done against that character who may be a bad person, it doesn’t take away from the honesty that a crime was committed against them. In this case , ‘fraud.’

Veri, you know I agree with you! The state, MY state is in a mess, and one thing we have learned is that an outsider like Arnold or Meg will only spend months and months spinning their wheels and not getting a darn thing done because they are NOT respected by the politicians in the legislature. Matter of fact, they are not respected by their own aides - who understand the political system. Eventually, they get their feet under them but by that time its too late.

Both Brown and Whitman want to slash spending. Oh boy, we’ve heard that before. But which one do I think “might” (cough, cough) be able to accomplish even a teeny bit of that with a mostly democratic legislature, and one that is almost entirely constituted by professional politicians regardless of their party? Brown. He is a political animal.

Arnold, on the other hand, after the first year, it was hard to decide if the Demos or the Repubs hated him more.

Whitman by her own admission did nothing creative or new at ebay. She admits it was built by the ebay community and “a monkey could run and grow this place” was her opinion (sorry, that’s paraphrased, but pretty much what she said). Brown was made fun of because of his “crazy” ideas, like solar energy and green industry - ideas that are now accepted.

But mostly - I know that Whitman will be useless regardless of what she believes. The legislature will chew her up and spit her out, probably faster and worse than Arnold.

Sort of like the way I supported Willie Brown. His political slickness made me want to throw up in my mouth a bit… but darn it, he was the only one who managed to get anything done and sometimes “anything” is better than absolutely “nothing.”

Yes, I can agree that no matter the outcome of the governorship in these days of California, it’ll be ineffectual *for the most part *since both Candidates are kind of blah and its all dependent on our legislature.
Meg might be an outsider, but I think she just wants power and the “title” while Brown likes to maintain power. Whitman, uses her resources to get the governorship, Brown uses his political rhetoric , to go from one office to another. (That said, I’d only settle on issues that concern me which is Prop 8, etc. abortion funding, and alliances )

The gerrymandering needs to be reformed (and I hope it’s handled well), so we can have more say fiscally in who’s in our legislature and the way the legislature operates and the ballot initiatives nonsense needs to be addressed because it’s like piling on more and more spending with the consent of ignorant taxpayers.

We get a constant trickle of “refugees” from California in my area, and that helps support the real estate market here. 🙂 So, I find it hard to cry the blues if California’s political class just can’t resist making it harder and harder to live there.

But getting back to the letter thing. A person in my family got a notification from the IRS that he couldn’t claim his daughter because her name didn’t match her SSN. That was because she had a different last name at birth. The parent went through the court to change the girl’s name legally, and did. But since the IRS didn’t know that, they rejected the dependent exemption. I have a feeling these “mismatches” aren’t all that uncommon.

But I’ll second the poster who said that E-verify is practically worthless. Most of the fake ID around here, anyway, is pretty high quality. The SSNs are all real…they just don’t belong to the illegal with the forged ID. A judge here once told me there are a lot of cases where Child Support Enforcement nails some local Hispanic for child support, usually out of California, for a child that provably isn’t his. Somebody else, who is the real father, is using his SSN in his own fake ID.

Employers can’t investigate ID that’s valid on its face. It’s against the law to do that. Almost always, when one reads about some plant being raided, it’s complicit between ICE and the employer. The employer can’t check out the person’s identity, but ICE can. So a lot of plants routinely send copies of employee ID to ICE. ICE then calls up the employer and lets the employer know there will be a raid. It only works for one shift, of course, because if there is a raid during, say, first shift, a lot of people never show up for second or third shift.

It’s a burden on the illegals, of course, because they have to go to the local fake ID vendor and buy a new one. If that same person shows up again at the very same plant with a different ID, the employer has to hire if the fake ID is a good one, even if the employer remembers the applicant under a different name.

The whole process is a crock, absolutely hamstrung by political correctness.

Yup, yup, and yup! The verification thing is a mess. We adopted a little girl and for 3 years we got tax letters refusing her as a dependent because she first had one of those special foster kid SS#s (made to hide an identity), and then when we requested a regular SS# we went through it all again.

But at least we investigated and answered the letter and provided the information instead of scratching a notation to her to handle and forgetting all about it.

Truly, the business of confirming citizenship and identity is a mess. But I’m not keen on carrying around citizenship IDs or getting my SS# tatooed on my arm, either.

I took your advice and read several web articles about her sons assault charges. Wow, just wow.

That cant be true-if Whitman was paying the agency then Nicki would have been an employee of the agency-not Whitman. I think you have been given some bad infomation.

True, but nonetheless, we should all try to be as clean as possible when it comes to running for public office.
And the best candidate the Democrats could come up with was Governor Moonbeam, a tired retread with four flat tires who inherited his job from his father and whose biggest claim to fame is that he used to date a singer.

  • Illegal alien with illegal documents!
  • Illegal alien paid $23.00 dollars an hour!
  • **Illegal Alien----------------------------------------**Deport her!
  • DNC losing pull the race card and attack someone personally!
  • GLORIA ALRED!!!
End of line!

Yup.Nothing infuriates the DNC more than a woman who leaves the liberal plantation. If she had fired this lady in 2002 she would be being attacked for firing someone over a letter that said it shouldnt be used for firing people.

Isnt it interresting that the same people attacking Whitman are the ones who told us the Arizona law is racist becuase it asks people to prvove their citizenship?
