OK, so your maid has an extremely heavy accent, refuses to leave the country with you to care for your children on trips, and has paperwork from the government that says her SS# doesn’t match her identity… but you delegate that person to “check on it” and have no suspicions? And your both have advanced degrees? Right.

.
So people with dark skin who have an accent should have their papers scrutinized more closely than those who have white skin and speak perfect english?

At $23 per hour she was obviously trying to take advantage of this poor illegal. If she wasn’t illegal Whitman would have had to pay $30 per hour.

I don’t know much about Meg Whitman (except she and her husband made their fortune through their Company, eBay), and being she’s in California, this election doesn’t directly impact my life (unless Obama makes me bail the State out).

Unlike nickel-millionaires, Uber-Wealthy people don’t need to employ illegals.

Meg Whitman can hire Actresses and Super Models to clean her homes.
She’s not clawing her way to the top-she’s there, and went over a long time ago-and is still going today.

Some people cannot fathom this. Meg doesn’t need to cut corners or pinch pennies.

God Bless.

And pennies were not cut. The evidence being using an employment agency and not the hiring the cousin of some firend’s housekeeper. Also by paying $23/hour, more then the average postal worker. At such wages nobody worries about “illegal aliens” because they are not working cheaper then the prevailing union wages.

  • Illegal alien with illegal documents!
  • Illegal alien paid $23.00 dollars an hour!
  • **Illegal Alien----------------------------------------**Deport her!
  • DNC losing pull the race card and attack someone personally!
  • GLORIA ALRED!!!
End of line!
:rotfl: Very succinct.
I like the cut of your jib.

And the best candidate the Democrats could come up with was Governor Moonbeam, a tired retread with four flat tires who inherited his job from his father and whose biggest claim to fame is that he used to date a singer.
Meg Whitman is better than Governor Moonbeam.

The election might affect lives outside the states, in respect to Gay Marriage too. We already know Brown is against Proposition 8, but if Meg Whitman gets elected she’ll appeal to uphold the votes on Prop 8, to the 9th Circuit, Supreme Court etc.

Which *could *have implications on how the law, regarding the states bans on Gay Marriage, applies nationally.

Yeah, that’s true.

I’m real disappointed in Rush & Glenn Beck over their poo-pooing Same Sex (whatever).

Giving in in 1 state does have its impact on other states when they have to honor laws.

Our Country is sick and needs the Divine Physician, that’s for sure.

God Bless.

You do realize that running additional background checks for those reasons is a violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act correct? To run additional checks for those reasons is a violation of their civil rights and will result in the employer being sued and paying thousands in “damages” to the employee and fines to the government - EVEN IF THE PERSON IS ACTUALLY IN THE COUNTRY ILLEGALLY.

From the instructions for the I9 form (employment verification form):
For the purpose of satisfying the employment eligibility verification requirements, an employer cannot request that an employee present more or different documents than are required. Also, an employer cannot refuse to honor documents which on their face reasonably appear to be genuine and to relate to the person presenting them. The new law makes these actions unfair immigration-related employment practices. (See Part 4.)

OK THIS is where I have something to say!

First of all, I work with, know, live around- I am SMACK dab in the middle of the hispanic community and know MANY illegal immigrants. They live good lifes, work all day, go home- the immigrants that are here working- they don’t want any trouble. They mind their own business, fear and DREAD the thought of having ANY contact with police (or people of authority). They just don’t want the drama, they live low key, and sometimes just suffer in silence- the price they pay for their freedom over here.

I GUARANTEE you that Lady didn’t seek out any lawyer about anything. GUARANTEE it! Not even a lawyer who referred Gloria to her. She just DIDNT. She kept that paper, because immigrants, especially those going thru the process still, keep everything that has to do with their immigration status. But she would have never taken it to a lawyer, because for what? What would a lawyer do for her? An employer is not obligated to help someone get citizenship.

Secondly, this lady would have NEVER exposed herself, so - or someone- MUST have offered her something for coming forward. Money? Help with citizenship? Idk- but this is SO OBVIOUS to anyone with a brain.

Back to the issue of the letter. Employers get them all the time. My ex boyfriend used to work at a cabinet making shop in Morgan Hill- the lady who typed in his info mis-typed ONE number, and WE got one of those letters. No where on there does it say ‘this person is an illegal’, in fact, its not even assumed - it just says please look over and make sure is this is right or if its an error. Once they knew she WAS in FACT an illegal, they fired her. How, exactly does that make her a hypocrite? It doesn’t.

But it makes her look ‘heartless’ to those that think idk, she should have been super save an immigrant and paid for her citizenship. All this stunt did was attempt to diss her character. LAME. Ya’ll are LAME.

GO WHITMAN!!!

If you look closely at the letter it even cautions the employer from firing the employee.

Read the second (or third) paragraph.

It is not a basis in and of itself to take adverse action against the employee and then goes on to tell the employer they could be subject to legal consequences if they do. Then it specifically states the letter does not make a statement about the employee’s legal immigration status.

I had not viewed this specific letter until you posted the link. It’s a form letter we get all the time and has been covered in HR professional meetings ad nauseum.

Ha, I got one last month penalizing us for $5,000.00 because our 2007 941’s didn’t agree with SSA W-2’s. It was up to me to prove them wrong. In the end, SSA had failed to post ONE W-2. Do you know how much work that is when you are submitting 478 W-2’s??? Why were they manually posting, when I filed electronically? They lost the electronic file, even though I had a confirmation number. So I had to send paper W-2’s.

Wait until you have file several thousand 1099s to companies like Wal-Mart and Office Depot. I’m looking at 3000 1099s that for tax year 2011. That means thousands of W9 forms mailed, then follow up calls on those that don’t reply. Then the actual 1099s that will have to be mailed and the eventually filing with the federal government. It will probably cost our company of 80 employees well over $100,000 to comply with this mandate.

Since when are W-9’s required for corporations (Walmart and Office Depot)??? That’s ridiculous. I’m not in compliance!!! As far as manpower, I have the manpower of one, ME. The corporation I work for can’t afford more office workers.

Its part of the new health care system.

You better brace yourself for this one:
Under current law, corporations must send an IRS Form 1099 to any individual or business that it has provided at least $600 in services to per calendar year. But Section 9006 of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act dramatically expands the reporting requirement to all corporations, tax-exempt organizations, and government entities, and includes payments for all goods, not just services, that exceed the $600 annual limit. The provision is slated to take effect in 2012.
