Andreas Hofer:
If JKirk is a Feeneyite, the whole fabric of the universe is probably ripping apart as we speak. You’d have to put in some real effort to be more mistaken!

As it stands, I think the distinction between material and formal heresy/schism is a very charitable way of explaining the truth. The Orthodox are in schism and Protestants espouse heresy. Rather than leaving it at that, though, one should explain the distinction in culpability which JKirk has done. Lying about the objective existence of heresy or schism will never affect real reunion.
Thanks, Andreas, I wondered if this person had read ANY of my prior posts.

No prob. Just like you, I don’t like people getting misrepresented - especially when that person is such a champion of the misrepresented as you are!

This response is a bit delayed to some earlier posts, but I am continually sickened when people falsely malign the Second Vatican Council as being a “disaster” for the Church–as someone said here referring to liturgical abuses and the like.

People who say things like this seem to have very little real understanding of Church history. Following every Church council–including the first (the Council of Jersualem) recorded in Acts–there is an average of a hundred years of chaos and misinterpretation of the council’s thought and decisions.

I have found that most people who talk about Vatican II (both the wackies that constantly expound on the so-called “spirit of Vatican II” as well as the “traditionalists” who call it a disaster have never actually read the documents (obviously, there are exceptions).

All of the complaining is simply foolhardy. In a few more decades, the thinking of the faithful will more or less stabalize and people will begin to understand and follow the true directives of the Council. So what if there are dissenters, wackos and heritics?–its been the same story for 2000 years.

(By the way, contrary to popular belief, Vatican II never mentions a word about guitars or liturgical dance.)

I didn’t know anyone claimed that. I don’t think liturgical dance was a pressing issue at the time. That’s why it wasn’t explicitly forbidden in the West until 1975.

Andreas–
That was a joke. I thought it absurd enough to be laughable.

Apparently not.

Sorry Scotty, I was trying to be playful. I’m used to the banter supplied by folks like Dr. Bombay and the Eastern forums lurkers.
