Researchers from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center published a study in the 2012 Journal of Cancer Research. They looked specifically at depo provera and found it doubles the risk of breast cancer:

Excerpt from interview with Dr. Timothy Flanigan:
It was a very large study that involved seven African countries. The researchers looked at couples with one HIV-positive spouse and one HIV-negative spouse.
The study was designed to look at whether suppressing the herpes virus would decrease HIV transmission. They enrolled well over 3,000 couples, mostly from sub-Saharan Africa.
Since hormonal contraceptives, especially Depo-Provera, are widely promoted in sub-Saharan Africa, the study provided an opportunity to see whether oral or injectable contraception would increase or decrease the risk of HIV transmission. What they found was very concerning: The hormonal contraception widely touted and promoted doubles the risk of acquisition and transmission of HIV.
The study was very well done, coordinated by the University of Washington in Seattle. The results are alarming and have significant implications for programs that actively promote the use of hormonal contraception.
The study was presented at the International AIDS Society in Rome last summer and was then published in the October issue of Lancet Infectious Diseases, a premier medical journal.
Since the study was published, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), UNAIDS and the World Health Organization (WHO) have convened panels to review the research about how hormonal contraception increases the risk of heterosexual transmission of HIV.

Doesn’t Melinda Gates know of this research?

Yeah, they probably would. It is true that if they are baptized Catholic they are still Catholic as a result of the indelible mark placed on the soul at baptism, but that aside I agree with the sentiment of the post; if you reject the Church you shouldn’t call yourself Catholic.
Without dissent and debate, then how would Catholic Church grow and improve? I can’t imagine anyone today being happy with the way it was run, say, 500 years ago.

:thumbsup:Your right. Some would like the Church to be what it was 2000 years ago which is simply not possible. Whether people like it or not, sometime it comes down to doing the less of two evils instead of the perfect solution, which is usually not even an option. Those who want or expect that perfect solution have never even come close to facing the situations we are talking about. They know nothing of watching their children die of starvation or being raped with no help from anyone. They are simply ignorant of what they are judging. I truly believe Melinda Gates has looked into ever aspect of this situation and knows for more than any of us.

I have to say that those you have said your implied that the reason Melinda Gates is doing what she is doing is mainly to lower the population of colored people is extremely unchristian. Most white people are not longer having 12, 13, 14 children, so why would she focus on a race that have already lowered the number of children to 1,2,3? She is not a racist. I can understand not liking what she is doing, but it is completely unfair people think she is a racist.
I heard that she and Bill have Asperger’s syndrome which means they have a lack of empathy for other people. This seems particularly dangerous when they are dispensing funds for the good of others, especially since they seem to have a disregard for Catholic teachings, which would be a good source for people who want to give but who are not very empathetic. Just because you are rich doesn’t mean you are wise.

Such vitriol at two people doing so much good in the world. It’s not an understatement to say that the Gates and their foundation have done more for the common good than all Catholic relief aid charities have done probably for the past 10+ years combined. Why throw stones at an incredible organization doing so much good.
