I don’t know really, but I am more inclined to sing more traditional hymns at Mass. Traditional hymns have more of a reasonable vocal range for men, but like contemporary songs, some can require high vocal ranges (Jesus Christ is Risen Today, Ode to Joy, Joy to the World, etc.)
Contemporary hymns also tend to be more upbeat and “dance-like” than traditional. For example - “Enter the Journey” or “How Can I Keep from Singing” (is that contemporary of traditional?) anyway, a lot of men are less inclined to sing dance songs like those from my experience.
