We dig dig dig dig dig dig dig, dig the whole day through… in a hole.

So all women blame sin of their weakness but men have more justifiable, honest reasons? Source for this assertion? Statistical analysis of reasons given? Or it this based on stereotypes? Answers on a postcard please.
You’ve never heard the stereotype that “men use love to get sex, and women use sex to get love”? Or as I interpret it, men are unscrupulous, hormone-driven animals and women are sweet, naive moral idiots. I believe that is the stereotype the OP is talking about in any case. It was part of talks that I can remember from Catholic school. Boys: you can control you visual nature and hormones. Girls: don’t be stupid and use your brain when you date someone.

It is based on stereotypes. There are no studies I believe and I think trying to investigate sex differences usually drifts into pseudo-science. But you’re the one with the college education so I thought maybe you would have something insightful to say about it. 😛

Oh I quite agree that’s the stereotype. Yes I do have a college education (university to me) but as soon as I saw a thread with the words “women weak between the ears”, my feminist radar went off and I got my metaphorical guns out. Now that I see no one is taking this terribly seriously, I’ve decided to have fun instead.

On a personal note, I’ve noticed something. When it comes to men commiting sexual sins, things outside of their control are often attributed (so they can’t help themselves) - hormones, social expectation, their age. But with women, it’s things that are meant to be in their control yet they’ve failed - emotional instability, clothing (not enough), weak and easily lead astray, behaving like a slut… etc.

Which makes sense. Historically, women are associated with the body, never the mind. So - childbearing, housework. Therefore, if they fail at something, it’s because of their mind.

Yet with men, they are historically associated with the mind. So - intellect, government, careers. Therefore, if they fail something, it’s because their body is leading them astray.

I hope that there were some that asked to talk to him about his subjective opinions without scientific basis. I hope everyone realized that is all they were anyway.

Exactly.

What happened to men and women both being beautiful creatures of God?

Isn’t that what we as Catholics are to believe?

I sense a lot of chip-bedecked shoulders and defensiveness.

Yes, men and women have their own weaknesses, which tend to be the same within each gender. But without temptation there is no virtue!

YOU ARE ALL BEAUTIFUL!!!

I actually wasn’t even thinking about married men. Men who are single and play with women’s emotions to get what they want.
These men usually want sin, so maybe priests presume we know better or don’t need a reminder.

But with the racks on display every Sunday, priests have a very visual reminder of where our society is.

In a related note, I felt so bad for our bishop a few weeks ago at a confirmation I attended. Some of the girls and sponsors were dressed so inappropriately.

I don’t agree with you very often LemonAndLime, but you’ve made an excellent observation.

Up until the last century, women have had to live with their sexual “mistakes” whereas men were off the hook, so-to-speak. Not so anymore, which proves men are more stupid than ever.

Thank you very much :). I remembered my history teacher talking about how men are associated with mind and women the body (prior to the feminist movement which lead to us being given the vote), and then I thought - maybe this theory can be used to explain why men and women are treated differently when it comes to sexual sin?

I think it still happens. If a man sleeps around he’s considered successful, but if a woman does she’s labelled as a slut.

I see a difference in cultural attitude during my lifetime, though. Instead of promiscuous men being viewed as more “slutty”, promiscuous women are being viewed as more successful.

Not sure if that’s a positive thing or not in comparison to how it used to be.

Women imitating sinful men cannot be a positve thing.

Women, generally speaking, have been the fabric of society for thousands of years. Women have held society together by keeping the basic unit of society, the family, intact. I see a rapidly deteriorating fabric of society in our culture.

Sorry, you give men too little credit. Both have faired equally bad and equally well…
at different times different vices have been problematic. Remember there was a time where women weren’t even allowed to vote…
The golden society has never existed. Every epoc has its own sins and pride.
My advice is to see the good in people today… ask not what people did better in other times, but what we do better today. I as a woman am very happy to live now and not earlier, try to imagine why that is. Its rather simple reasons. People need freedom in order to sin, but they also need freedom to be virtuous.

Is that women’s fault?

Why is that women always suffer the brunt of the blame when it comes to the “breakdown of society”?

I’d argue if I could.

No.

No blame was assigned. Believe it or not, I agree with you and the original intent of your thread.
It’s always good to agree on something besides our faith. I almost disagree with you here, but let me explain. It is women’s fault in as much as there isn’t someone there to hold the family together selflessly, dedicate all their time to looking after children and other family members. But, it isn’t women’s fault as it is unfair to expect women to always fulfill that role, or whether someone has to have that role at all. Does that make sense?

But if you were to directly ask me whether I think it’s women’s fault that the family has broken down, then I would answer no. It’s unfair to place all of the responsibility on all women. Even today in the papers, women are constantly attacked for their choices. Why can’t the husbands stay at home instead? 🤷

Perfect sense.

I know a couple of stay-at-home dads who really love their families and are doing wonderful jobs. The wives, however, come off as somewhat resentful at times.

Women are equal to men in the most important aspects of life, and generally speaking, are superior in the most important work of all, keeping families and society together.

I think the title of this thread is a little off. I think it is that Men visually weak, women weak in their heats.

Saying “women weak between the ears” implies a lack of intelligence. It is actually the strong desire to be loved and a willingness to believe that that is what the man is looking for also which causes us to fall for the flowery things they tell us and the “mind games” that are being referenced here. And often times the men aren’t playing mind games at all. Often a man tells us right out, in his actions and sometimes even in his words what he is after. We often don’t believe them.

I don’t doubt there are some stay-at-home dads who do wonderful jobs. I know a few myself.

And I agree on your last statement too, I think it’s also a great burden/responsibility however. so it’s not all praise and no hardwork. I would quite like to be a stay-at-home mum if I can afford it, but I would like a career at the same time. Once I have kids, I’d prefer to work part-time or work for a nursing agency where you can pick your own hours. But I would definately have as much maternity leave as I could.
