As far as I know, for 1st century Judea (and the general region of Palestine including the area immediately around the Sea of Galilee) there is no archaeological evidence showing that there were Jewish barbershops or hair salons and the cutting of hair was kept in the family, while styles were limited to shorter chopped hair and shoulder length for men, and waist long Or longer for women. Bald men had to work with what they had. Paul was talking about men who grew their hair so long even beyond the waist, that made them look like women. But men wearing shoulder-length hair would have been just fine among the Jews. As you can see, shoulder length is not long compared to:

BINGO! Another alleged problem cut to pieces!

CUT TO PIECES

What about long hair put up in a man bun? Would that make more or less sinful? 🤔

This is what Paul was talking about

Man bun? who invented that nomenclatura?

At any rate - that could not represent long ankle-length hair

And Jesus is oft-depicted as having hair which touches his shoulders…

but funny, now, kind of technically a woman can also take pride in the type of covering they have as they do their hair.
I’ve been wanting to say that for a long time.

Back on topic, I agree with those who point out that it all depends on one’s definition of “long”. And, Paul’s words to the contrary, it is not “nature” that condemns long hair on men, but culture and custom.

D

I don’t see how any particular hairstyle could be intrinsically sinful; how could God be offended by a hairstyle?

Are your legs too long if they reach the ground,
I dunno, but they’re definitely too short if they don’t!
😱 🤔

sinful, as it incites people to the near occasion of hurting themselves laughing at it!

😱
…my hair hasn’t been this long since Jimmy Carter was President. 😉
It was in the Reagan administration that I went form the full head of hair that didn’t quite touch my collar to the military entry shave.

I never did return to the full head; generally just enough that I can part it.

I haven’t seen a barber for more than a decade–I got carried away trimming my beard one day, and ended up with a full haircut. And it was far better than most barbers (most can’t handle hair this thick. I’ve been butchered many times, to the point of having to stand in the mirror and fix it!). I don’t have to take an hour or two out I the middle of the day.

Long hair? No, not sinful. Man buns on the other hand . . . . 😉
I’ve always been of the mind that the primary qualifications for a man to have his hair in a man bun should be weighing at least 350 lb., wearing a mawashi, and speaking Japanese.

If a man’s hair gets to what? Classic length? Mid-Thigh length? Knee length?

'Tis time to get it cut, yes? 👨‍🌾

My hair is getting pretty long in quarantine. The barbershops still aren’t open around here. Should I be ashamed?

Well, it took 50 years, but the hippies finally got their way: Weed is legal and haircuts are against the law…

Mee too !
I Stopped shaving because it was making me look more weird to have long hair and short beard. At least I’m somewhat matched … now. Can’t see my girlfriend anyway … 😉
