*"Merck CEO Kenneth Frazier is resigning from President Donald Trump’s manufacturing council.

“America’s leaders must honor our fundamental values by clearly rejecting expressions of hatred, bigotry, and group supremacy, which run counter to the American ideal that all people are created equal,” Frazier said in a statement on Monday.

He added: “As CEO of Merck, and as a matter of personal conscience, I feel a responsibility to take a stand against intolerance and extremism.”

Frazier is one of the few black CEOs of a major US corporation and was the only black member of the council."*

The President’s response (via Twitter):
Now that Ken Frazier of Merck Pharma has resigned from President’s Manufacturing Council,he will have more time to LOWER RIPOFF DRUG PRICES!

(This of course raises the question: If the President thought this CEO was ripping of his customers, why did he choose him in the first place?)
 
Interesting that he can’t denounce white supremacy but can tweet immediately when a black man crosses him.

Frazier didn’t just “cross him”. He criticized him for NOT condemning “hate, bigotry and group supremacy”. Trump actually did condemn the first two, and Frazier’s very presence on the board strongly suggests that Trump is not a defender of “group supremacy”.

So let’s not pretend that Trump’s criticism of Frazier was due to his being black.
 
We now know Trump’s staff asked him to personally deliver a message denouncing white supremacy and he refused.
 
Of course, trump had to try to save face by retreating to insults on twitter. He has all the impulse control of a nine-year-old

Had he done so, he would have elevated “white supremacy” to the status of a movement worthy of note instead of the miniscule and disparate collection of fringe groups that it really is.

Maybe presidents should not respond to critiques of any kind, but Frazier all but called Trump a racist.

In view of what virtually everybody thinks of as drug company gouging, (and rightly in many cases) that particular “virtue signaling” of Frazier’s virtually begged for the response it received.

One recalls Harry Truman offering to punch a newsman in the nose. At least Trump didn’t do that.

But MS13 is large enough to merit mention? And “RADICAL ISLAMIC TERROR” is so large that he needs to repeat it over and over?

And if he had, his defenders would be criticizing Frazier’s face for violently running into Trump.

MS-13 and Islamic terror actually are serious and significant threats to the populace. These little “white supremacy” groups are not.
 
Merck CEO helped get black inmate off death row
Kenneth Frazier, the CEO of drug giant Merck that left President Trump’s manufacturing council following Trump’s refusal to condemn white supremacists, was previously a lawyer who helped free a black death row inmate falsely accused of murder.

Prior to joining Merck (MRK), Frazier was a partner at the Philadelphia-based law firm Drinker Biddle & Reath. During his time at that firm, Frazier worked to get the conviction of James Willie “Bo” Cochran overturned in Alabama.

Cochran was released from prison in 1997 after spending two decades on death row. He died last year.

Frazier, who is black, wrote in a 2004 essay for the American Bar Association that while he was working on Cochran’s case, it “became obvious that one of the major factors contributing to Bo’s conviction centered around the fact that each of his jury trials was distorted when viewed through the lens of race.”

You are saying that Trump needs to treat someone differently because of their skin pigmentation? Isn’t that racist?

No, I’m saying he should treat people equally of course. He should be at least as quick to denounce white terrorists as he is a black businessman who criticized him. I don’t think this is a particularly controversial opinion.

He denounced those who act out of “hatred and bigotry”. Why was it essential for him to say “white” in doing so?

Imagine if he had, or some occasion, like some police killing, denounced “black” hatred and bigotry.
