…in which case, it would probably be more helpful if you cite where specifically you read "hatred [of people, not behaviors]"and “irrational fear.” Then perhaps such posters can benefit from your fraternal correction. 😉
heheh… I would rather keep that to myself. i don’t pretend to be the judge of my fellow. my point was that was my perception, which is only mine, and to be used for my own personal growth. if i see a fault in others then that usually means that i should look within and resist the temptation to point that out to them. i hope nobody took offense at my general statement.

Sexuality and Religion Discussion Series Event

This is happening now at Yale University, School of Divinity. Not Catholic in focus, but should be interesting. Open to the public. Wish I could be there. Just thought I would post this in case anyone interested in this subject is in the new haven area now.

If you perceive that there is “hatred” and “irrational fear” on display in the thread, then surely that perception must be grounded in something? If there is no basis for your perception that there is “hatred” and “irrational fear” then what is your perception other than pure conjecture? Perhaps an “irrational conclusion”?! 😃

Tell me just this one thing. If God doesn’t want homosexuals to have sex than why does me make them that way?
This argument can be made for pedophiles as well. So, by your logic God wants children sexually molested by pedophiles. In addition, there are genetic predispositions for alcholism and violent behaviour. Evidently, God intends people to be dependant on alcohol and engage in violent/antisocial practices.

I must apolgize for my tone but your rhetorical question is quite spurioius and illconceived.

However, what would the Church think about this practice in your view?
Simply, as disordered and immoral behaviour. This being a rite of initiation doesn’t mitigate homosexual intercourse being immoral behaviour from a Catholic perspective. Some South American tribes consume the flesh of their vanquished enemies in order to tame enemy spirits. Does this make cannibalism any less abhorrent to the Catholic Church? No.

Nice circumlocution.

I was making a statement based on my observations. If people choose to take it to heart, then fine. If not, then also fine. I am not my brother’s keeper.

I try not to be directly critical of others, unless I think they are actively harming people. For example, in another thread someone was recommending a medical practitioner who is known to use harmful techniques. In that case, I spoke up directly.

I am gay, so my perspective may be different than some folks, and I will stand up for myself, and call people out on obvious lies and misinformation, when I feel like it. There is a lot of it which gets bandied about without even thinking of the consequences that words may have.

So, it took you three days to come up with that adjective and in the end it seems you don’t know what circomlocution is. I say that because it has taken you three posts following your phrase "…some who seem* to be full of hatred or irrational fear…" *to not respond directly to a query about why you have percieved that hatred and/or irrational fear are to be found on these threads. That, my friend, is circomlocution writ large!

hehe… i see you are not going to give me any slack. yes, i am a very slow reader, and i run my finger one word at a time down the dictionary page until i find a word i like. i don’t really care what is means if i like the sound of it.
