ok ill give a serious answer. with a question of my own. why did Jesus come to earth to save us? what was he saving us from? Gods wrath. thats what. if all the wrath of God was, was annialation then so what? even the buddhist would be ok with that. thats actually their idea of heaven believe it or not. no, we were meant to be eternal. even though the body dies, we will be ressurected and will either have our physical bodies glorified, or we will will be raised with immortal bodies that are gonna suffer for all eternity. my discription of hell would have to be several things. have you ever been in the C.S. gas chamber? any one who has been in the military will know what im talking about. you cannot breath. your windpipe closes a milimeter, and you choke, and gag. hells fumes are gonna be a million times worse. with no end. also on top of that, there are passages that allude to not being able to move. think of millions of bodies piled on top of one another stacked like chord wood. you cant move, your breathing fumes of fire, your flesh is salted inside and out with fire, and it never ends! not a future i would want. i dont think the story of the rich man and lazarus was a parable. lets pray none of us end up there. oh my Jesus. forgive us our sins. save us from the fires of hell. lead all souls to heaven especially those most in need of your mercy. Amen.

How can you reconcile your view of an eternally burning hell with these two passages Ben?

Do you think that God loves the ones that will be sent to their destruction? Of coarse He does. So an eternally burning hell where souls are tortured in torment for all eternity is inconsistant with a God who “is love.”

Also, it says in Rev. that the former things like pain, sorrow, crying, will pass away and be no more. An eternally burning hell with souls writhing in torment cannot exist along side the scenario described in Rev.21:4

I’m a little fuzzy as to why we’re having this discussion, with all due respect. Hell is well-laid-out in Scripture, tradition, in the catechism, etc. Obviously hell isn’t something that expires. I’m not sure what the point is here?

Many hear of hell, see the word in scripture, have heard of the word from the tradition of their friends, or family, but simple questions, as I previously asked… are difficult to answer.

To answer your original question - no, there is no hell.

I know the Christian Bible and Muslim Quran make mention of it, but that doesn’t make it a reality.

Some believe people need a reason to behave properly. This would either have to be the promise of reward (heaven), or of punishment (hell)

A loving God has no need of such.

If it is possible to separate oneself from God, then yes, hell does exist. The Christian Church has always taught that free will may include the desire to be separated from God. Separation from God and all that it entails is hell.

hi richard. good to hear from you again. yes God does love everyone who goes to hell. however his justice demands they go there. he does not send them to hell, they choose to go there. as for the verses you quote in revelation that is true to the extent of those that find themselves in heaven. Jesus said that those that are not will be in a place where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth. revelation also states the smoke of their “torment” goes up forever. it is also written that they shall have no rest, day or night. Peace

hello my friend. i will answer both your post in one post. what attributes would people have in hell? well i think its safe to say, that a person would have no friends there. everyone would hate everyone else. it is a place of of eternal punishment. think about all the evil inclinations of man on earth and magnify them a million fold. as far as what happens when we die? i believe that when we die, the spiritual realm is fully revealed to us. Jewish authors are very good at explaining this better. primarily the practitioners of Kabbalah. it is a transition where the veil is lifted. its funny that no matter what country a child is from, or no matter what religious background, when they have a near death experience they always see Jesus. even if they have never heard of him. i think it would be wise to listen to such as these. for the kingdom was made for these. also lets look at moses. was not the Lord talking with him on the mountain? he died. and yet there he was. i have other biblical examples if you would like. peace

At the end of the world the wicked will be thrown into the furnace of fire to be punished, weeping and gnashing of teeth, and then destroyed, burned up, forever.

Theses vs. show that the dead are not in heaven or hell, but in the grave awaiting the resurrection.

If Hell does not exist, then it surely must follow that Paradise too very likely does not exist as well… and for those who doubt that the Creator would send His creations to the Hell-fire for all of eternity, then by the same token, there should be no reason why He would send His other creations to Paradise for all of eternity.

BTW, if a Muslim says that Hell does not exist, he is no longer a Muslim since he has disbelieved a basic teaching of the faith and is thus considered a disbeliever who is destined for the Hell-fire.

If a Christian says that he does not believe that Hell exists, would he still be considered a believer?

Today, as I understand it, the wicked die go to the grave — see Luke 16, the richman is experiencing torture today. Then at the judgement, Matthew 24, the grave gives up the dead, to go into the lake of fire which will be “eternal punishment”. Jesus indicates that that fire will not go out. The reason, one will have eternal punishment is because they gain a body that can not be destroyed, see I Cor 15 for a description of the ressurrected body.

So, no the final hell does not exist today. Yes, the wicked are still in punishment in the grave.

Please do not take this as sarcasm. It is my belief that all are children of God. I am a child that very recently started to study the Bible and believe that it is not the church that will save you but Christ. I want to study other Christian beliefs and believe that I am a remnant of Israel.

How do we know that these people are seeing Jesus? Does anybody know what Jesus looks like?

Can people in hell, see, smell, hear, talk, with people in hell, or in heaven, or on earth?

What if hell is the willful separation of the individual from God by his own choice? God doesn’t send us to hell. We choose to go there.

I agree with you, in that I do not believe that hell exist today. The wicked are in the grave, however their punishment is yet to come, ie Mat 24.

Matthew 25:46 says the wicked will receive “everlasting punishment”?
Notice the word is punishment, not punishing. Punishing would be continuous, while punishment is one act. The punishment of the wicked is death, and this death is everlasting.

interesting. so what you are telling me, is that the hindus and buddhist are correct. this is exactly what they seek. the annialation of the being. you just described nirvana. the bible and tradition teach something else. why else would the bible state the smoke of their torment goes up forever. and also that they shall have no rest day or night. again, just like much of Adventist theology, you have to ignore many passages to come to these views. hell was not intended for men. it was intended for the rebellious angels. man however chose to eat of the tree of knowledge. so there for incurred the penalty for himself.
