This was a silly practice that surfaced, probably due to OCP/GIA and the like exerting their deathgrip on Mass music. So… umm is a troped Agnus Dei ever heard in an OF?
The Agnus Dei in the EF Requiem Mass is actually troped. Instead of:
Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis
Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis
Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, dona nobis pacem
it is
Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, dona eis requiem (grant them rest)
Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, dona eis requiem (grant them rest)
Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, dona eis requiem sempiternam (grant them eternal rest)
which I support because it is not because of want to be “different” or something, but because the liturgical books say it must be done, and because it is solidly traditional.
