Be more interested in function over form…just as no last thoughts of a man on his death bed are, “I wish I would have spent more time in the office”, Christ is unlikely to say, “I’m sorry, but despite glorifying the Father by loving me, and doing good works for the love of your neighbor, I can’t let you into paradise because you booted the rules in the GRIM or CCL”.
No, I don’t imagine God saying that (though we do know priests are held to a higher standard than lay people). But what is the purpose of rules if they aren’t followed?

After Pope Francis washed women’s feet last year, I overheard a conversation claiming that the pope will likely now allow women ordination. Obviously,
Pope Francis has no intention of this…but perhaps we have rules to avoid confusion?

But what is the purpose of rules if they aren’t followed?
That might be a question that could have been asked the Pharisees.

Rules are good, but when they become a heavy yoke, or worse, become the religion, then then they may not be serving any useful purpose.

Peace and all good!

Then it becomes incumbent on the correct authority to remove or alter the rule.

But until then, we are to practice the Virtue of Obedience.

Agreed…hopefully we will see a string of reformers in authority, and Pope Francis will forge the way!

That’s correct. Fr. Z talks about that in one of his columns. Pastors are only to wash the feet of 12 males, even if the Holy Father deviates from this practice.
So Fr Z is taking issue with the Pope? Or can the Pope by his office deviate? The Pope said priest need to smell like the sheep, and the Pope is doing that…shouldn’t other priests follow his lead or instead follow the example of this Fr z? As a priest I would be more likely to follow the Pope.

Our priest accompanied himself on the guitar for the Gloria. He’s a first-class player and vocalist. It was really good.
Lol, I’m sorry. but there was no one else who could play the guitar while the entire church sang the Gloria? Circumstances were such that the priest needed to pull out Ole Trusty and perform?

Did everyone sing along or were you blessed with a moving solo?
