MERGED Richard Dawkins planning to have Pope Benedict arrested over 'crimes against humanity'

Too bad he has no political power over the police, nor is a policeman imself, so how could he arrest his holiness anyways? This Dawkins just wants publicity for himself.
 
Dawkin and Hitchens believe he should face criminal proceedings because his “first instinct” was to protect the church rather than the children in its care.

Rather totalitarian one might think to persecute someone’s on the basis of their instincts rather on the basis of their actions.

As the future of Europe becomes ever more secular, it does not bode well for liberty.
 
Dawkins and Hitchens, two towers of virtue, leading the charge of moral indignatian, poised to save us all from God. Hitchens, the alcoholic atheist with a newly confessed penchant for buggery, seems once again to be pathologically engaged in his favorite passtime: Hatred of all things sacred. On one side you have the 2,000 year-old Roman Catholic Church, founded by Jesus Christ, and in contrast you have the wheezing curmudgeon. As Hitchens ages, his malevolent spirit shows more and more upon his countenance. He is as repugnant as are his views. Time will only accelerate this phenomenon. By the time it is all over, he will look more like a gargoyle than a human being. We will watch the decline of Hitchen’ cause by the dark decline of his very aspect.

As for Dawkins, he would allow the Pope to publicly baptize him if they just paid him enough money. The man is a fraud and atheism is merely his schtick.

I don’t know-but I think if the pope pulled out a machine gun and starting shooting people, something could be done! 😉 (it’s a joke-I don’t think Pope Benedict would do that!)

Dawkins is pathetic person. I feel sorry for him.

If Pope Benedict broke any civil laws, he should be held accountable-that doesn’t mean I support him being arrested, however.
 
Yes, Dawkins is playing the opportunist here, and it is shameful. He’s allowed his “celebrity” to go to his head and is now doing whatever to remain in the news.

That being said, if public opinion continues to worsen for the church, the idea of arresting Benedict XVI may gain traction with more respectable people as well as public support. If that were to happen, then as in the Pinochet case, one never knows what might happen.

It would be best if the church addressed the issue forthrightly and avoided being put in a position where it had to estimate the likelihood of an arrest attempt and subsequent events.

The works of Dawkins and Hitchens along with alcohol and drug abuse. But yet they can’t look upon themselves as deteriorating humanity to mere base animals (Darwinism).
 
LOL. Richard Dawkins can’t arrest anyone, nor is he in any position to influence someone who is.
 
I’m not particularly conservative, but this Hitchins person really offends me. Whatever he says is usually so loony, I cannot wrap my head around it. And I must confess my ignorance here, I don’t know who Richard Dawkins is. :o

But to be practical, I don’t think you can arrest a head of state until he or she isn’t head of state any longer. Since being Pope is for life, your problem is solved.

He wrote, amongst other things, The God Delusion, former Professor for Public Understanding of Science at Oxford and expanded the gene-centered view of evolutions. To my knowledge, no one contests his scientific credentials but many many people don’t like much (read: any) of his work on religion.

Pinochet and Milošević were both arrested–over claims of sovereign immunity–using the method Dawkins (and UN judge Geoffrey Robertson) are arguing could be used for the Pope. (See more at %between%)

The Holy Father is neither of the two. Pinochet was also a “private citizen” at that time i.e. he was not here on invitation by the Queen.

Frankly, I don’t think this is the place to argue about this. I was just saying that the claim of sovereign immunity is hardly unassailable. I’m not an international lawyer so I’m not qualified to explore the intricacies of the international laws at issue here.
