Maybe.
Probably not though.
People are only fooling themselves with that mantra.

Just an opinion, based on differential treatment of Israel.evidence ,or drive by slander ?![]()
Antisemitism is alive and well in the world today, with yet another organization calling for the boycott of Israeli universities.
I only hope that Meryl Streep will continue to be as outspoken addressing the bigotry of the living, as she is about addressing the bigotry of the dead.
Grandstanding. That’s all it was. The man has been dead for nearly 50 years. I hope she feels better now that she got it off her chest![]()
I’ve never read anything about Walt Disney. He was certainly a man with a vision. But we’re all products of our time, including Meryl Streep. I wonder what her views on abortion would be, compared to what she’s have believed if she’d lived in 1938.
I’m not American, but the only time frame given was a letter written in 1938, when there was a fair bit of employment discrimination against women, and they were generally seen as mothers, or mothers to be. That was pretty much the case throughout the West. They probably had more vocational “rights” in the USSR of all places, where men and women were regarded as “equal”.
Also in 1938, I suspect the Isolationist movement would have been alive and well, and maybe Disney sympathised with that. This might have made him less than encouraging to Jewish interests, who were possibly seen as the culprits for the problems in Europe at the time.
Charles Lindbergh was even more naĂŻve about Hitler and Germany, and Isolationism.
I don’t see much point in castigating people for being products of their time. I wonder what future generations will say about this generation which butchers milions of their own unborn children.
Antisemitism is evil no matter what time period it finds itself in. Just like slavery being acceptable before does not make it right. Evil is evil no matter what time period and we should not make excuses for people who hold on to these evil notions even if they were a product of their time.I’ve never read anything about Walt Disney. He wasn’t anti-Semitic. He hired Jews and was very loyal to his employees who were Jewish. One of his main animators was Jewish who worked for him for many, many years. All the evidence for Disney being anti-Semitic is based on hearsay and innuendo, not reality.Antisemitism is evil no matter what time period it finds itself in. Now if Disney were indeed an anti-Semite, than we can say he was antisemite and not say that he is excused because he is a product of his times.
Please read my post again. I put the word if, in the beginning of my sentence. I did not say that he was beyond all doubt an antisemite, hence the word if as a conditional. He wasn’t anti-Semitic.
