My church sent a group down to Biloxi with supplies and to help clean up. (What the LCMS did was to take the area that was hit and divide it into sections, then each district and circuit was assigned an area and a church to take care of.) The pictures and stories that came back are horriffic. It is unreal. Everyone who went down there said the biggest fear that people have is that they are being forgotten. The group who went down are already starting planning again to start collecting food and supplies for the next trip.
One of the ladies who went works with stained glass. She had people pick up odd pieces of glass or pottery and made crosses out of them. She made one that she left for the church in Biloxi to use (they haven’t anything left), little ones as reminders for the group that went down, and a large one for our congregation as a reminder. The one for our congregation has part of someone’s rosary worked into it.
I don’t think I will ever forget the pictures. I can’t even imagine what it looks like in person.
