Jared Leto is wearing a golden flower crown. And his stole doesn’t seem to have religious imagery.

He looks like a medieval king of sorts. He’s had long hair and beard for a long time.

as per resolute’s comment:

Our Lady at Fatima said that God was already very much offended by fashions and that we must be careful not to offend Him anymore. I saw this last night and couldn’t believe my eyes. No wonder Our Lady gave us the First Saturday’s devotion to make reparation for blasphemies like this.
If Our Lady was offended in 19717, how much more were she and her Son offended by this event? I’m not blaming clergy, just the participants - it was a mockery of our Faith.

Edited: Apparently this was a comment made as a joke. The original story didn’t say this.

Some were trying to dismiss Cardinal Dolan’s level of participation. They were wrong.

“The news said she was wearing a tiara,” Dolan said Tuesday in an interview on SiriusXM’s The Catholic Channel, noting that it was in fact a miter of the sort worn by bishops and cardinals on formal liturgical occasions. “She gave it back to me this morning. … She was very gracious.”
This is after the event. So not only did he give a religious item to a woman who is grossly immodest and promotes immorality, but he is so undisturbed by what he did after seeing the results that he casually mentions it with no shame.

This is actually one reason I was hesitant to convert to Catholicism. I heard about the mean old Catholic Church. But what I experienced was more the priest who took nothing too seriously and joked about everything. I like a good laugh. The operative word is good. There are things which are properly funny and things which are anything but funny. If you don’t take your own religion seriously why would you expect anyone else to?

Well I’m sure you’ll feel better when you look at this picture…

Good news? Orange spray is real

Convert to Catholicism because of the FAITH. Don’t let the actions of others prevent you from becoming Catholic. We are Catholic primarily because of the faith that’s been handed down through the centuries, not because of how other self-described Catholics act… All Catholics in the entire world could be decadent, immoral and heretical, but that still is no reflection at all of the true faith. Even if this was the situation, we should still cling to the faith and not let go.

At least one of them can’t sing :man_shrugging:t2:

What I’m asking is if you believe those involved in this event will judge themselves after death.
Why do you ask? Of course they will; we are all subject to judgement after death. When face to face with the awesome glory of God, our shortcomings will become painfully clear. We will judge every action (and every repentance), all aspects of our relationship with the Almighty, simultaneously as God judges our heart.

what is wrong with the picture of the Cardinal and Donald Trump? was it a charity event?

his jokes are not funny I Don’t think. then he joked she volunteered to help out at Confirmations! that probably confused
non-Catholics.

When posting a link, the poster should actually read it. He was joking! Clearly stated in the posted link.

The article has been updated since I first read it. The headline has changed to include the word ‘joke’ in it. So I did read it. The original article misrepresented the account.

It wasn’t something he should have joked about because many devout Catholics don’t find the event at all funny.

I can appreciate that. Poor taste, poor choices, imperfect humanity.

Edit:
The original article misrepresented the account.
Yet another caution to beware of what we read. So much information, sides to the story, so little time.

Yep. I know news is often sensationalism, but it is easy to get caught up by it.

Ah. I simply found the use of the word “judge” unclear. Well, so long as we don’t start thinking that we have any control over our eternal destiny, after death. Of course we have the opportunity to reflect upon our own actions in life in an examination of conscience, then repent and confess and do penance.

Unfortunately, these “celebrities” don’t seem to realize what they’re doing in such events is wicked. Until they do, they won’t see any cause to repent. But I pray that they do. I also pray that Catholics stop praising blasphemous events like this.

Cardinal Dolan has to live there. He probably has actual parishioners who are involved in this business, to say nothing of friends outside his parish and people who he has to work with to keep up his Cathedral and generally go about the business of his position.

I can understand him wanting to walk a fine line here.

It’s “important” in a very negative sense. Like demonic possession or same sex “marriage” are important.
