Let it go…was it the Little Flower who prayed "save me from sour faced saints’?

Life is to short to always have our panties in a twist!

Honestly, I think that the general idea of the exhibit wasn’t terrible but it was the gala that was sad.
Most dresses, to me, were so revealing and so obviously mocking of the Faith. Zendaya’s Joan of Arc was one of the better ones as was Ariana Grande’s Last Judgement dress. (I know she isn’t a fan of the Faith anymore) Blake Lively looked gorgeous as did Scarlett Johansson.
Lana Del Rey’s recreation of Mary was horrid as was Jarod Letto’s and Taylor Hill’s getups. I was reminded of Beyonce’s Grammy performance when I saw Cardi B’s outfit. Madonna has always seemed to use religion in a sacrilegious manner… Rihanna’s was quite obviously taking a hit at the Faith just as Nicki Minaj did a few years back.
Katy Perry’s was rather dull and expected of her. The Kardashian/Jenner’s weren’t anything special either. I’ve seen Selena Gomez in much better dresses…
There was a woman, Lena Waithe, who wore a pride flag on her shoulders and I’m 99% sure it was in spite/ for the sake of edginess…
I believe there was a neckline rule a few years ago at the Met Gala (maybe it was part of the theme) and it’s sad they didn’t implement anything this year.
Being inspired by religion or by a certain person/image from religion is different than using crosses/ religious symbols or recreating an actual religious person for the sake of fashion and fame. I feel like if Christians or Catholics dressed as a Muslim or a Jew or another religion, it would be seen as cultural appropriation.
EDIT: After some digging, I noticed that there are several articles from rather liberal sources that seem a bit shocked at what some celebs decided to wear… however some don’t seem to know who Lana was dressed as…
I will note that I liked some of the tiaras/halos some women wore.

The guests were told to dress in their “Sunday best” in other words, more modestly. Must not have got the memo…

Wonderful opportunity for the Church to show her beauty. Hope everyone on the red carpet gets a chance to see her, and compare their own fashion choices against the standard.

I take no offence; they will judge themselves (on the day) whether beautiful, opulent, harmlessly playful, or tragically play-fool. God loves each one as much as you or me. I pray for this moment of grace to touch each heart.

Yeah, but Lynda Carter would look good in a burlap sack. Let’s be honest.

My pics for dresses best reflecting the theme.

I’m not understanding how they got the theme. Would you be willing to explain how, they do so?

how they got the theme
It’s explained in the links above. The museum contacted the Vatican, got loan of art, clothing/vestments, whatever, to assemble an exhibit as basis for showing Church/religious influence on fashion. If you read all the articles you’ll get the idea. It’s a charity event, looks like most of the attendees dressed really normally, some let their imagination run waaaay out there 🙉🙊🙈

The Met Gala has some very interesting pictures of people dressed in clothes I find offends the Catholic faith

I meant how those dresses fit the theme. (In rereading, I realize I really muddled that.)

That’s up to the individual designer and person wearing it with what they allowed themselves to be inspired with during the dress and attire creation.

There were a fair few halos and headpieces for instance on the Red Carpet. 🙂

Oh, you want my fashion write up on the dresses I picked. 😊 I just think they look pretty, but since you ask, I’ll give it a shot. Ah hem … 🤓

Top: Cream lace, embroidered with seed pearls, beautiful for a Catholic wedding, I’d leave off the large cross, opting for a smaller one on a neck chain.

Middle: Fabric is reminiscent of gold embroidered Easter vestments. Love the cape.

Bottom: Homage to the Pope, a flattering short cape over a white dress covered with black Spanish lace. I could imagine Audrey Hepburn wearing this dress.

😍😍😍

What’s the saying: imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I think these three appreciate the art of the Church and reinterpret it in modern dress.

I couldn’t agree more. The photographs of this event were deeply depressing to me. I also found it sad that Cardinal Dolan gave his endorsement to an event that raises millions for the Met’s Costume Institute while parishes and schools are closing all over his diocese. I love the Met and I passionately love art, but seeing this kind of exploitation of something I hold sacred…God have mercy.

Did he endorse it? 😳
Maybe he did not realize what he was endorsing. I am thinking he endorsed a gala to celebrate the Vatican art, but not the outfits that were worn to it.

the money raised does not go to any charity. it goes to the costume department of the museum
$30,000 a ticket I think I read.
