Methodist question concerning Trump

He’s Presbyterian
I have heard him claim that he is Presbyterian, but there are also long time family ties to Marble Collegiate Church on 5th Avenue in NYC. Remember Norman Vincent Peale? He was Senior Minister there for over 50 years. It’s officially Reformed Church of America, not Presbyterian.

My guess is that he is not an active member anywhere.

I remember him saying he’s never asked God for forgiveness for anything.

I don’t see any way a practicing Christian could possibly say that. So yeah, I doubt he follows the tenets of Methodism, or any denomination.

It seems to me that the only time US suddenly holds up the Christian card is during an election.

According to our friends at Wiki, Marble Collegiate Church is, as you say, Reformed Church of America, but that is, as its name suggests, Presbyterian, not Methodist.

As Pope Francis might ask you, who are you to judge?
Is that supposed to shut me up?

I have never seen two human beings who serve their masters in such sharp contrast as Pope Francis and Donald Trump.
I pity anyone who cannot see that.

As to the OP, what difference does it make? Religion is only a tool of the elite. It’s tossed aside as soon as it’s used.

The Reformed Church in America is a denomination in and of itself. It comes out of the Dutch Reformed tradition, not quite Presbyterian. Two separate bodies, but I would think that their theology is similar.

Thank you for the correction. Should’ve known better than to trust Wikipedia.

🙂

Trump is a Methodist is he following the tenets of the Methodist church?
As others have mentioned, Donald Trump is Presbyterian, or at least that is how he self-identifies. The only time when I remember him speaking about his religion was when he was campaigning in states like Iowa where religion was considered more noteworthy by the electorate. Interestingly, one of the verses he quotes the most is the one about “An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth” from the Old Testament (Exodus 21:23-24).

In case anyone is interested, here is a discussion that Bill O’Reilly had with a Baptist pastor on his program about Donald Trump’s position on religion.

I doubt if he has given much thought as to what he believes. I suspect that during most of his life religion has been placed in the furthest recesses of his mind.

Where did you get the idea that he was Methodist?
Yeah the only Methodist in the remaining field is Hillary Clinton.

Kasich is an Anglican (Anglican Church in North America) and a former Catholic
Cruz is practicing in the Southern Baptist Convention but was baptized Catholic
Sanders is Jewish but self described as not very religious
Trump claims to be Presbyterian

I still believe that Cruz was baptized Catholic, although now attends a Southern Baptist congregation and subscribes to his father’s Dominionist theology.

True, modified my post accordingly. He is also a former Catholic if you want to be technical as is his father. And you’re right, Cruz’s brand of Evangelical is Dominionism but he practices that within the SBC.
