The bishops of Mexico have released a press statement denouncing the controversial Arizona immigration law. The statement was signed by Bishop Víctor René Rodríguez Gómez of Texcoco, …

Why do I have a feeling these bishops never denounced Mexican laws that are violently cruel to illegal Central American migrants in Mexico. I bet they also don’t care about laws where Mexican police and demand ID and deport at will.

Wake up American Catholics! In the 1930’s during Spain’s Civil War against communists (yes, that is exactly what General Franco fought during one of the Church’s bloodiest persecutions in its history) there was a name for priests involved in political agenda, namely “guerrillas”. Friends of mine paid in blood for the terrible harm these guerrillas did to Christ’s Church by following politics instead of Church teaching.

It’s a matter of salvation and practical self-defense for American laity to know their faith thoroughly and completely. Honestly apply it to accurate (read truth) facts in the USA immigration issue. Then ask yourself if you see guerrillas operating here. Frankly, even if this Mexican Hierarchy statement is based on horrible misinformation re Arizona’s immigration law (easily the case given USCCB’s continual misinformation via its heretical pro liberation theology staffers), it blatantly disregardes clear constant Church teaching re immigration justice.

The faith you learn accurately & fully may literally save your own life & the lives of your family!

Please don’t state that anyone in Church leadership “doesn’t care,” as it doesn’t act to serve the Lord or advance His kingdom in any way, and only gives ammunition to the enemies of God.

Stylites, Twisting the plain meaning of words is what gives the Enemy ammo. I agree with Catholicgauze’s reasonable use of "doesn’t care’.

No, publicly criticising Church leaders and painting them as uncaring (or incompetent, foolish, unknowledgeable, etc) is not helping to build up the Church. It is doing ourselves (and Jesus) a great disservice.

If you want to flippantly place bets on how uncaring the Church is, then please take it elsewhere.

Let’s all remind ourselves what the consequences would be of these same bishops criticising Mexico policy towards “undocumented workers” from Guatamala.

Exactly!

And what are the bishops opinions regarding MEXICAN police demanding identification from those they detain in MEXICO during the commission of crimes? If someone in MEXICO fails to produce identification, do the police just let them go? Should the US bishops condemn MEXICO for requiring people in their country to prove who they are? Should our president go there and complain that such a law is infringing on the “rights” of Americans who are in Mexico? Should we send bus loads of activists to Mexico City to wave the American flag in their faces and riot in the streets? If the bishops (everywhere) would spend more time preaching the Gospel and less time preaching social justice, these problems would not be around any more.
