Bishop Marcelino Hernandez said the Church would not hold a ceremony or use any official procedure to kick the legislators out but explained that they would be essentially voting to remove themselves.
“The person excommunicates himself, it’s not that the Church goes around with a rod, looking for people who make mistakes, in order to hit them on the head,” Hernandez told reporters in a press conference, according to an AP report.

Great news about a bishop!!

Wish we could have him here!!!

Thank God for this good and holy man who isn’t afraid to preach the truth OUT LOUD FOR EVERYONE TO HEAR!

California bishops…we’re waiting!

If I were the Bishop, I would fear for my life. If I remember right, it was the PDR (the sponsors of the bills) who tried to bully the courts there to declare them the winners when they lost power. I would not put it past them to go after this bishop. 😦

I guess I’m more of a hard-liner than I thought! I would think just voting for the bill would be enough to excommunicate them as opposed to waiting until the first abortion was performed.

Hurray for the courage of this Bishop!

*A leading Catholic official in Mexico said Wednesday that any **lawmakers in the capital city’s legislature that vote for a bill to legalize abortion there will be excommunicated when the first legal abortion is done. ***Both the city’s legislature and the Mexican Congress are considering bills to allow abortions.

RE: “Fearing for his life”

The wording that this bishop used doesn’t give me the impression he’s fearing anything on this earth. And he’s announcing to his flock the truth - the true teachings of the Church - as is his obligation. This is his job, it’s what he signed up for - as it is for EVERY priest. And he’s got the courage (and the grace) to speak when something needs to be said. This is a good bishop.

How many good, holy priests did not succumb to King Henry the VIII’s true threats against their lives. How many priests stayed at private family homes to offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in the middle of the night, a different home every few days - in fear of their lives? That’s what’s required in these times, also. Will OUR U.S. priests or bishops answer the call to matyrdom - to sainthood?

Does anyone know the spiritual life of this bishop? I’ll bet he doesn’t miss offering his daily Mass, rosary and holy hour, Probably lives at his church, and hears confessions regularly and is always available to anyone in his diocese (not just the rich and rich homosexual). He probably even takes PHONE CALLS!

How many priests do you know who won’t even stand up to their errant bishops, never mind an angry mob? We know there are priests who are white martyrs suffering under errant/heretical bishops - we need them all to speak, and speak loudly, clearly and publicly in defense of the One True Church of God.

And we need it now!

Hopefully the clergy in Mexico have the courage to fight this.

A bishop willing to tell the truth is bishop who would willingly accept martyrdom, so I doubt if he fears for his life on this earth, only his life to come. Go, bishop, go!

How refreshing it is to hear a bishop state the truth plainly and simply! 👍

I will pray for the unborn children of Mexico, that they may be spared from the slaughter that has been taking place in America and Europe for decades.

Way to go. Here is praying that the Bishops of the USA will do so also.👍

Christians, for the first 200 years after Jesus, faced the fact of execution for spreading the word of God. Yet they did it. The least we can do as Christians, and Catholics, today is to stand up and honor those who died for the faith. This bishop speaking out against abortion is doing just that, standing up for the faith. This man has courage and like other have said, is more worried about his fate in the next world than this one. Which is how we should all act.

Finally someone has the guts to do it!! (especially in a Catholic country)

How refreshing. May God continue to bless Bishop Hernandez. And may He prod the US bishops to do the same.
