Mexico City to legalize abortion

From what I understand the city is 90% Roman Catholic, so I do not think this will mean a tidal wave of abortions. Here is another analogy, imagine a KKK council has told their branch that no longer will it be taboo to speak good will of non-Aryans, but the protests from the KKK members won’t mean much since none of them would speak good of non-Aryans anyways!

Timothy- What was the demographic of those who claimed to be Christian after Roe-v-Wade?

This opens the door for all the mess that legalized abortion brings with it. (Exploitation of women and girls, increase of premarital sexual activity, increase of abuse, in women and children, etc.)

The numbers of those seeking an abortion will definitely increase. Those who were deterred by the illegal and unsafe abortions, will consider it now it is “safe” ( ) and legal…

This is completely devilish, they say at the end of th article:

“Today, there is a new atmosphere in this city. It is the atmosphere of freedom.”

I’m going before the blessed sacrament tonight. Christ have mercy!

There might be a large number of abortions versus the amount of women who have it, what I mean by that is that even if only 10% of women have it, you could still (theoretically) have a huge number of abortions since it seems there are 2 types of women, the first being the majority who never and wont ever have one, and a minority who have several. It is very rare to have a woman who has had only 1 abortion in her lifetime, most wither have several or none at all.

I have seen plenty of this in societies where there are extreme strict anti-abortion laws, so that argument won’t hold up well.

I am sure those who were desperate enough for one tried to find a way, and while I agree that the number will increase, my difference is that I believe the increase will not be that large

This is a sad day for Latin America and pro-lifers. I hope this “freedom” doesn’t spread to other countries.

There’s a sad quote that I thought was fitting from this article.
“We go to great lengths to protect (sea) turtle eggs,” said city lawmaker Paula Soto, a member of Calderon’s party. “Lucky turtles! It appears they have more people willing to defend them than some unborn children.”

Very sad. If I heard right, the Archbishop said that he would condone excommunicating any Catholic legislature members in Mexico that voted to allow this. I think I was listening to the Catholic Channel on Sirius when I heard this, but it may not be true.

As a Mexican and a Catholic, these are very sad news to me. I heard this on the news last night. I know how Mexican people are and they will take advantage of this new law. 😦

Many are poor in Mexico so they might “need” to use abortion as an exit on economical problems. Many don’t even make it through elementary school, many are poorly catechized, so things like these influence them a lot. Just look at the way so many Mexican Catholics are being lied to and converted to other religions. :crying:
