I’ve had first hand experience of the emptying of Christianity in the Middle East. My family and I fled away from Lebanon over 20 years ago because of the same issue; we were getting persecuted by the extremist muslims.

It is happening in Iraq now too and will most likely reach all of the Middle East:

both lebanon and iraq have had a massive exodus because of sustained military violence within their borders.

i don’t see the reason or grounds for that kind of exodus in other arab states. at least not yet.

melkites and antiochene orthodox are quite comfortably hq’d in damascus for instance. and the copts don’t seem to be going anywhere, period.

is this a feeling on your part that violence is going to continue to spread through the middle east; that gov’ts are going to become increasingly unstable leading to more civil wars in the region?

salaam.

Have you heard about the stories in Egypt and the persecution that the Christians are going through, of course not, they are very secretive. Over 8 million Maronites now live outside of Lebanon with about 1.2 million left in Lebanon. The percentage of Christians in Lebanon has dropped significantly in the past 20 years but the good thing about Lebanon is that it is law to have a Maronite as President because Lebanon is the only country in th middle east were it is not fully dominated by muslims. Other coutries like Egypt, Saudia Arabia, Iran, etc. do not have such “freedom” laws as Lebanon but the expansion of sharia law could hurt all of the Middle East.
