I have a question and I since I am little curious, I need to know what to do about it.

Recently my conscience caught up with me about something I did and I think I made a mistake by doing it, see I am engaged to be married, and all the time up to a certain point I refused to have sexual relations before marriage, and since my fiance and I are trying to be careful what we do and keep it for marriage, it seems in a heated moment my fiance and I had sexual relations and we did not mean for it to happen, but since it is done and over with and nothing we can do about, should I confess this the next time I go to confession before the priest, even if I have had sexual relations time and time again with confessing it:confused:

You should confess thin and any other unconfessed sins of impurity, you should also confess sins that are of other natures.

I think you should definitely confess that as soon as possible. Also, if I understand the post correctly, and this is something done in the past and confessed in the past, you’ll want to examine your conscience and make a confession with the intent of not committing that sin again. This is something most people (speaking from experience) have trouble with, where the same sin is committed after confessing it. When we go to confession, it should be with the thought, “Lord, I am going to do everything I can to avoid this sin for the rest of my life.” And do our best to avoid that sin. Good luck to you. 🙂

You should definitely confess, even if you feel you are ‘not ready’.

Confession is not only the admission of your sins, but also the receiving of graces from God. Your confessor also prays for you.

You may fail many times after this time, but your struggle is most pleasing to God, I understand.

Unless you fully intend to continue having sex, thus making the confession insincere, go !!

You may receive the grace to say ‘no’ in a way you did not think was possible.

Unless you fully intend to continue, go !!

I’ve been there, so I think I can understand how you feel.

I have prayed for you…

so I am guessing this is a mortal sin I have committed I guess or is it not?

Sin is sin my friend. We all deserve death for our sins. (Rom 6:23)
Confess your sins to God and he will forgive you, if you are truly sorry in your heart, for God alone knows the heart. That is why God is so great, because of His mercy and love. Thank God for sending his Son Jesus to die in place of us for our sins. Work hard at repentence. Christ will give you strength.

Thanks for the Advice Turtle but this is hard for me and I am feel extremely guilty

Will I get temporal punisment for this?

No…there is no such thing as temporal punishment. If you want to get rid of the guilt, pray to God right now. Pour out your heart to Christ and ask for forgiveness. You know you must work your hardest to prevent future occurances. God is gracious and will help you through it. But I guarantee if you pray to God for forgiveness right now, you will start to feel better knowing that God has forgiven you. God will never stop forgiving as long as you confess with a true heart and repent and work hard to overcome sin in your life. We all sin, and I need daily God’s forgiveness. I thank Christ for saving me…I once too was in a similar situation.

Turtle-

I do not think you understand me like you think you do, As a Catholic I am allowed to make a confesson before a priest, for whatever I have done, big or small. I have not been Catholic that long, but I have been doing lots of reading and studying and there is a such thing as temporal punishment you can ask anyone in here and they will tell you.

Maybe you should do a little research yourself, and see that I am not lying.

Yes God is Just & Kind but he likes for his people to admit when they do wrong by not only confessing it to him but to a priest for absolution, without that, I would have to live with it for the rest of my life not knowing what God is going to say, I have a chance to Use the Sacrament of Reconciliation and I plan to use it as I need too

I suppose you are going to tell me I do not need that either and it is just a bunch of horse hockey am I not right. You can tell me anything you want to but I know what I am doing and I believe I need to do what is right.

Maybe you think this is some sort of stage, but I think you are playing with fire. Do not be judgemental. Are you Catholic by some chance? if you are you would know this. Even if you were a beginner like me.

Hi friend, yes, it was bad that it had happened. I wouldn’t worry about if it was a mortal sin or not but next time you do it again, it will be mortal sin for both of you.

For now, pray hard and ask God for forgiveness and go to confession as soon as you can (and your fiance as well). Talk to your fiance about this; be sure to pray and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you so that what you put into words will make sense to your fiance as well.

Be supportive and be patient to your fiance in this situation if she gets upset, confused, etc … Let her know about this sin and you two must pray hard about this and help each other control the temptation.

I take you seriously, and I am sorry if it appears I am coming off judgemental, for I do not want to seem that way. Luke 16:19-31 Christ tells what happens when we die, either as a believer or unbeliever. But the keynote I would point out to you is verse 26. There is a fixed gulf between Hades and Abraham’s bosom, in which no one can pass. Just 2 places to go.

As far as confessing to a priest, you can do that if you sinned against the priest, but you didn’t. You sinned against God. We confess our sins to others when we sin against them as well. If you don’t trust God alone enough to forgive you, and you need to hear it from a human, I’m not going to stop you. But I am telling you you that you don’t have to work for your forgiveness from God, otherwise it is not true forgiveness. Plus you would never gain forgiveness. Forgiveness means to let go, withdraw from penalty. That does not mean that there might not be consequences. But you won’t have to suffer the penalty of death when God forgives you. And like I said, if that isn’t enough for you to grasp, and that you must partake in some other kind of sacrament to gain your forgiveness, then I don’t think you understand true forgiveness.

He is not Catholic as you could tell but don’t worry about it. I’d suggest that you focus on what you know you have to do and put aside whatever tells you not to go to Confession - you know exactly who does not want you to be reconciled with God through the Sacrament.

Colossians 2

8 Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. 9 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; 10 and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.
11 In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 12 buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.
13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, 14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.

I don’t need a priest to tell me I am forgiven. Christ already did the work.

Goodnight.

Yup—not Catholic.

I find it so interesting that many non-catholics like to quote St. Paul so much. Unfortunately they confuse St. Paul’s remarks with those of Jesus Himself, (God Make Flesh and the Word of God. Now let me quote, not philosophy or tradition, but the New Testament.

Gospel of John: 20:21

“Jesus said to the disciples, (apostles, or twelve, refer to vs.24) Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you,” Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive, are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain, are retained."

The greatest ministry of the Church is to forgive sins through the power of the Holy Spirit. The Sacrament of Reconciliation does just that. Remember, Jesus did not call people to have an individual relationship with him. I have found nowhere is the Bible, where Jesus say to accept Him as Lord and Personal Savior. The word personal does is nowhere in Jesus vocabulary. He told the Apostle, He who hears you, hears me. It’s very evident that Jesus formed the Church to be the extension of Himself in time and space.

The Church has the mission and ministry to forgive sins, therefore reconciling people back to God. The Catholic Priesthood, which flows from the Apostolic Ministry, as the Apostles did, continues to, by the power of the Holy Spirit, absolve from sin, those members of the Church, who have sinned against God.

Of course, not to be arogant or condescending, any who neither belongs to a church or understands the church as Christ founded it will fall into the false teachings, which St. Paul refers to in Collossians, concerning the church. Remember, Paul founded churches and never did teach individual salvation.
God Bless

Have you forgot that Paul’s writings are in the New Testament? Paul did not write from his own mind…but the Holy Spirit used him. Paul’s writings are God’s words.

You seriously think that Jesus lacks in vocabulary? Do you not understand that Jesus is THE Savior? Jesus is Lord. He has been granted all authority in Heaven and on the earth. Even Mary recognized Jesus as savior in Luke 1

46 And Mary said:
Code:
“ My soul magnifies the Lord,
47 And my spirit has rejoiced in God **my** Savior.
Jesus said in Matthew 7

21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

Galatians 2
20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

This is a personal statement implying that salvation is for everyone individually.

I believe that all believers in Christ are the body of Christ. And forgiving is the most Godlike character that we can show to people, because that is what Christ does for us, individually. He forgives our sins because He died for our sins.

Turtle27, if you wish to try to convince everyone that your view of confession and penance is superior to the Catholic view, the Non-Catholic Religions section of the forum is the place to do it.

Please everyone. If someone starts to argue against Catholic teachings in the L&S forum, don’t answer him/her but report such posts so the moderators can deal with the situation. Thank you all.

Yes, go to confession and tell the priest what happened in this transgression. Try your best not to let it happen again. Sex outside the institution of marriage is not a good move and one to be avoided at all costs.
