Two leading Catholic social justice groups have condemned the Federal government’s new changes to excisse the Australian mainland for asylum seekers who arrive by boat. The Australian Catholic Migrant and Refugee Office said it is “gravely concerned” and the Josephite Justice Office said the changes “shame us as Australians”.http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/cathnews/RSS/~4/Op3B-viSLPk

I am not ashamed. I think it is great. In fact more should be done.
These people are economic refugees. They mainlky seek out canada and Australia because of the help they get from those two countries. Just while waiting for processing. They recieve free dental, glasses etc. And once processed the monertary support the get is incredible. Free housing. Jobs. Their kids are put into private schools. It is why they come here. In fact.
One of the last boats to come here, upon finding out they weren’t coming to Australia. They opted to return to sri lanka.
And if these ppl are ashamed to be australian then perhaps they should hop on the next boat out of here. They wont be missed

I agree more should be done within Australia to handle the issue internally.

Instead we dump these people on kinder, poorer nations nearby e.g. PNG and Nauru

The Governor of Manus in PNG was correct when he said the Australian government was arrogant in demanding that PNG look after their refugees and lacked empathy.
