Professor Mike Adams is critical of the censorship of an article written by Notre Dame Law Professor Charles Rice. The article was to be published by the Notre Dame student newspaper “The Observer”, but was rejected for false reasons . Professor Rice’s article is reported to defend the Church’s teachings on homosexual activity.

According to Professor Adams: “the prior restraint of the views of Professor Rice is not defensible”.

It seems like people are ready to jump on Notre Dame every chance they can these days.

This was a very bad decision made by the student-editor, who clearly needs lessons in journalism. But pretending that its somehow a reflection on the university at large is ridiculous.

Mike Adams never even brought the reason behind the student-editor’s refusal. The Observer had recently majorly gaffed by allowing a very homophobic cartoon to run to print, and thus the student-editor was afraid of printing anything related to the homosexuality debate. Of course, that’s not a good excuse, but like I said, all it tells me is that the kid needs lessons in journalism.

Extrapolating anything further about the views of the university itself is unwarranted. The administration has virtually nothing to do with the student newspaper, its operation is entirely up to kids like this one who made the mistake.

No reason to get all worked up because a student editor decided to not print Professor Rice’s article in an independant newspaper most likely because the paper had a huge blunder a couple months ago and somehow allowed an incredibly poor comic strip to run which displayed outright violent comments against homosexuals. So, it’s over, and it’s time to calm down. Notre Dame obviously commits itself to Church teaching on homosexuality. They refuse to allow a student alliance and continually shut down the idea of adding “sexual orientation” to the non-discrimination clause since they cannot leagally separate “activity” from “same-sex attraction”. I went to another Catholic university for grad school, and if other Catholic universities were HALF as faithful to Church teaching and Catholic culture as Notre Dame, we’d be doing well. Unfortunately, other universities have fallen much further away from the Church than Notre Dame has ever dared to go. Sad but true.

Naturopaths are really really interesting.
In a very strange kind of way.
