How do they contribute to cultural diversity? And how do they raise awareness of and appreciation for nature?

Ishii
Good Evening Ishii: Specifically, they raise an awareness among westerners of ancient hermetic traditions, and make us more aware of our connection to nature. Personally, I perceive that they are having a gradual impact on the way we as a species think with regard to our interconnectedness with the world around us. On a more broad level, it is certainly evident that any culture is an aggregate of its constituent parts. Simply put, every part is evident in the whole and the whole is seen in every part.

All the best,
Gary

Could you put that in English?

I see. Thanks for the explanation.

Ishii

So can you put it in English for the rest of us?
Hermetic? The occult. Alchemy, astrology, Ouija boards. And stuff.
Naturally as catholics we would value those things.

As for the rest of the post - I have no idea.

Actually - here’s a guess: there is a psychic web of oneness that we are all a part of and wiccans help us realize our our inner goddess and the divine feminine.

And rocks and trees have souls.

Gotta make sure we can work a reference to Gaia in their someplace . But even then I suspect it would take years to understand the wisdom being imparted to us.

Wicca is to religion as Easy Bake ovens are to kitchens.

Children must play.

Ishii, Darrly, Esestesbob: Did one of you have some sort of cogent response to my post? Since you seem to have had some trouble in deciphering it, the point was that western civilization is an aggregate of many cultures, races and religions rather than an epiphenomenon of the Catholic Church or any other one source. Your attempts at obfuscation by glomming onto one example I provided (Wiccans) as being somehow emblematic of my particular beliefs or views is rather clumsy in my opinion, but how you choose represent your ability to reason in your posts is entirely up to you. But it sees to me that the fact that I speak of other traditions with the same respect that I show toward any culture, religion or race of people seems to perturb the three of you in some way, and I have to admit that I do find that rather disturbing.

That said, if one of you has a counterpoint to what I have said about the formation of western civilization, I would be happy to engage in a polite discussion that sticks to the point and respects the dignity of all people of all religions, races and cultural backgrounds in the process.

All the best
Gary

Honestly, I’d say Wicca is an unfortunate consequence of the Catholic Church not wanting to completely eradicate all traces of paganism from converted Europe, and later on the Americas, like it really should have. Sure Thor and Wonder Woman wouldn’t exist, but then again that’s be better than your daughter renouncing Catholicism for the Moon Goddess and renaming herself “Windhawk Lovestar.”

You are right, Gary. All apologies for not giving wiccanism the respect it deserves and for not acknowledging the great contributions wiccans have made to western civilization.

And those contributions being a watered-down, theme park version of ancient beliefs that should have been tossed into history’s garbage disposal, a knock-off of the Trinity that appeals to “more sensible and woman-friendly ideals,” theological syncretism, and a hollow feel-good version of St. Francis of Assisi’s manifesto: The Canticle of the Sun.

Oh yeah, those are some stellar contributions from a cult that for the most part consists of bitter former-Christian young women.

That is exactly what I was going to say.

Way to make short work of the previous poster’s praise for the contribution of wiccanism to western civ.

Ishii

The main difference between paganism with Thor and Loki and whatnot, and Wicca, is there at one point Europeans actually believed in these old gods.

Wicca is a play religion. People pretend it rather than actually practice it.

I am reminded of the incident in South America where Catholics locked shoulders and surrounded their Church to keep it from being vandalized, all the while praying the rosary.
I have never been so proud.

The way to fight this is the way MLK fought and won. It is the way Christ taught and fought. When the jails start filling up with Priests and other clergy, it will move others to action. Violence, hatred, and other related actions will undermine ourselves and our principles.

Another thought. The Bible has told all of us, that this stuff was coming. None of this garbage should surprise anyone. Who will be Pope Peter II? Rid yourselves of your anger if you can, it will not serve you well in this struggle. I have never been to jail, but my God will be most pleased with me if I do for refusing to break his laws. The OUTCOME of our struggles is not what is important, that is in God’s hands. That is for him to decide and deal with. What IS important is how WE conduct ourselves.

Gary - if you go back and read my post (and I hope you do), you will find that I did not single out any one person or accuse anyone specifically - least of all you. So there is no need to protest too much.

Based on my experience: those who speak out against the evil Republicans, war, guns, death penalty, etc. are really deflecting attention away from their support for pro-abortion Democrats. If that does not describe you, then great.

How do you expect to have a polite, honest dialog when you demonize those with whom you disagree? You basically implied that Republicans are un-Christian, don’t care about the sick and the poor, etc. I will always shoot for politeness, but I don’t appreciate the implication that those who believe in different policies from you on how to help the poor, sick etc. don’t care about the poor and sick, and are not good Christians.

If you do away with the ad hominem attacks and straw men I think there is a very good chance at resuming a polite, honest debate - on what policies should best help the poor, and promote life.

Ishii
I might well be wrong, but I don’t think our Lord would be particularly pleased with either party.

Wow, I think this thread: Mike Huckabee: U.S. moving toward ‘criminalization of Christianity’
got a little side tracked somewhere.
