What’s next? Memorial Day being called a possible violation of the Hatch Act? Visiting the tomb of the unknown solider?
Victoria, what you and others ignore is that, every year, there is a celebration on the Mall. It has music, fireworks, all sorts of stuff.

So, having a July 4th celebration is not political. Laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns is not political. BUT, taking over a long-standing celebration and demanding air time for a one-hour speech IS political. If Donald Trump can talk for an hour and not mention opponents, political parties, the 2020 race, then good for him and good for the country.

This year, Trump ordered a Fourth of July celebration. He is the President, and had no idea this was done every year. He had no idea the park service has a contract for a fireworks display.

An interesting opinion and I respect your right to say this. I don’t know if he is not aware of these things of which you speak. He has been president for 2 years.

There’s going to be a televised speech? Who will have access to the VIP section?

The last I read is that the White House doesn’t have a clue how they are going to distribute tickets. My friends/neighbors who occasionally go to the District for the fireworks are all staying home.

I do stand corrected on what Trump’s hour will contain. Here is what the Park Service says:

Salute to America
6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., Lincoln Memorial

President Donald J. Trump honors America’s armed forces with music, military demonstrations, flyovers and much more. Participants include the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, the U.S. Army Band (“Pershing’s Own”), the Armed Forces Chorus, the United States Marine Corps Silent Drill Team, and many others. Gates open at 3:30

Who’s going to pay for any damage done by the tanks to the streets? Wasn’t that one of the reasons the last request for a military parade by Trump was scuttled?
Plus, these kind of military parades remind me of what they used to do in the Soviet Union and what they still do in North Korea. In the parades they had in the Soviet Union, all the members of the Politburo would come out and watch from the Kremlin. Whenever a Politburo member failed to show, this usually told the rest of the world that he had fallen out of power. In North Korea, these parades are always a showcase for their nuclear missiles.

You seemed to ignore the point within my post. The hate never stops.

Plus there is this:

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump’s July Fourth celebration on the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC, will include a ticketed area in front of the Lincoln Memorial where he’ll deliver remarks.

The perimeter of the restricted area will be “immediately around the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, and about midway down through the Reflecting Pool,” said Matthew Miller, special agent in charge of the US Secret Service Washington Field Office, in a news conference Friday with local and federal officials on the July Fourth celebrations in the nation’s capital.

The White House confirmed to CNN on Saturday that there will be a ticketed area for VIPs, friends, family and members of the military. Those tickets come at no cost, but the White House did not say how it would specifically be allocated. The White House added that the entire event is free for the general public with no ticket requirement.

Miller said the Secret Service will provide security for Trump’s “Salute to America” event, but that the White House is issuing the tickets.

Edit: I didn’t realize that this had already been posted, so provided another account from CNN

I know a disabled vet (not super serious disability, his leg got mangled in an explosion in Desert Storm as he was a tank driver), and he told me under Trump, the vets got some deal and now, he has been able to buy a plot of land and house out in the country whereas before he couldn’t. So, with all that is said per this conversation, a lot of the military, vets, esteem Trump.

I may not always approve of every nuance of Trump’s personality but sometimes, honesty, blunt honesty is esteemed by people. I know, I know very well, some will question “honesty”, fine with me if one does. I would have hoped the good General Mattis had stayed in as Secretary of Defense, I also understand that the operations of the government are not going to be easy and not always to my liking, one does the best they can under the circumstances.

All of those who oppose President Trump daily search for anything to criticize this
president about. It does not stop. And
their extreme dislike of him drives them to criticize anything and everything President Trump or his administration does.
Another day, another criticism.

It’s not a search. It’s just there. Read the news.

Extreme dislike? Yeah, that might be fair. As to criticizing everything Trump or his administration does - yes. They do so much that can be criticized that his supporters either don’t believe or don’t care.

Just over the weekend his daughter with no qualifications was trying to insert herself into a meeting with world leaders. In what alternative universe is that okay?

How do know this? Please cite your source of information.

You have access to policy meeting? Or is this just your opinion of how it played out?

Robert, you’re grasping at straws.

So, if you read the stories about how all of this started, it would be obvious he didn’t know. Maybe I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and say he just didn’t care. Either isn’t good, but I’ll go with he didn’t know.

He tweeted this. Shows total ignorance of what goes on in DC on the Fourth:

HOLD THE DATE! We will be having one of the biggest gatherings in the history of Washington, D.C., on July 4th. It will be called “A Salute To America” and will be held at the Lincoln Memorial. Major fireworks display, entertainment and an address by your favorite President, me!

Are you accusing a poster of hate?
This is a pretty hateful statement:
About the only saving grace is it’s going to be 90 with a 60% chance of rain on July 4.
to wish bad weather on someone’s celebration.

We have also had negative comments on his administration without any facts to back then up.
He is the President, and had no idea this was done every year. He had no idea the park service has a contract for a fireworks display.
No sources for this statement. No first hand knowledge. (Sort of reminds me of someone who has no sources accusing a Catholic governor of not going to Mass on Sunday).

How does this show ignorance of other events?

There already is a major fireworks display on the mall, and there already is entertainment. Someone who know that would say “an even bigger fireworks display than in years past”
to wish bad weather on someone’s celebration.
Well, that means that it will have low turnout. Is it wrong to wish for low turnout for something I think is wrong?
