Military Spectacle for July 4

That describes just about every day in Washington DC for the month of July.
And about 70 percent of the July 4th’s for the last 30 years at least.

I’m rather glad I’ve already made other 4th of July plans or I’d be tempted to go to this, despite knowing that it’s basically sweltering in a swamp for hours all day and then sweltering some more as you try to get on the Metro to leave at the end. Plus the added hassles of post-9/11 security, which I did not have to deal with when I was young and hanging around the Mall for several July 4ths.

I think it should also include remembering our founding. Perhaps readings of the Declaration of Independence, reenactment of some of the events leading up to the signing, etc
If you want that, then you head down to Colonial Williamsburg in VA, where they will have a Thomas Jefferson re-enactor reading the Declaration and all kinds of other re-enactment type stuff happening in a historic setting.

Regarding military spectacles, I think it would be hard to top Bush Senior’s Gulf War victory parade. I happened to be hiking with a group down the Anacostia River trail the day it was happening, and pretty much the entire local air force base flew over us heading to the Mall. Between that and the swampy river it was like an Apocalypse Now hike.

If Trump hadn’t won HC would be the president. No ther Republican could have beat her.Trump gets credit for all the winning, like him or not you can’t spin the truth

Jeane, I am not a leftist. I am a conservative.

The “accomplishments” that Ridgerunner listed would have been true for any Republican President.
  • Two vacancies opened up on the Supreme Court. Trump had nothing to do with that.
  • Any Republican would have changed the HHS mandate.
  • the economy is simply following the same trajectory it has had for years.
He is not winning at anything, personally. He is just presiding over chaos, with no coherent legislative policy or foreign policy. He lets his daughter play Secretary of State.
Liberals never tire of blaming Roe vs. Wade on Republican justices. And there is some merit to that contention. Among his other mistakes, Reagan appointed O"Connor. There is no certainty that another Repub would have appointed Gorsuch and Kavanaugh. But Trump said it before the election, and he did what he said he would do.

Liberals also never tire of claiming the Trump economy is really due to Obama. It took four years of the Obama administration before the DOW returned to its 2018 level, and only two years for it to gain 1/3 after Trump won the election.

Sorry, Jeanne, that’s just wishful revisionist thinking.

Clinton had a 54% unfavorable rating and Trump had a 58% unfavorable rating. More people voted for Clinton than Trump.

I will speculate that any Republican candidate would have had a lower unfavorable rating than Clinton and would have won. In 2016 neither candidate was all that great. Also, any other Democrat would have had a lower unfavorable rating and would have beaten Trump.

Nope Trump was the candidate because the twelve others on the dais were uninspiring.Trump won because the electorate were and still are sick and tired of namby pamby politicians who stick their fingers in the air but never accomplish much of anything. This is the very reason he is reviled by the Dems, and the RINO.

I loved watching the DC fireworks on 4th July one year, even with rain dampening the event. It was after 9/11.
Expanded fireworks sound great, It would be nice if silent fireworks were employed, speaking for pets.
Children both big and small love flyovers. A free airshow. I am sure the President will make the right choice about tanks rolling down the road.

The Salute to America military format reminds me of the military parades common in some other countries. I can’t imagine this parade getting as intensely overt as those ones.

Ridgerunner, I am not a liberal, and Jeanne, I’m not a RINO.

I find it insulting, and a little disheartening. Is that really all you have to fall back on?

Is it just the fireworks from DC? If so I could do that.
Lots of good music. My favorite was when they’d do the 1812 Overture, with the cannons in the percussion section. 🙂
The 39th annual Capitol Fourth celebration is on the horizon, and a slew of stars (including TV’s coolest uncle, John Stamos) will be there. But arguably the biggest names aren’t even human — Sesame Street will appear on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol building as well.

Stamos will kick off the extravaganza July 4 at 8 p.m. Carole King, Sesame Street, Lindsey Stirling, Vanessa Williams, the cast of Broadway’s “Beautiful,” including Vanessa Carlton, the National Symphony Orchestra and more will take the stage.
Full list of 2019 performers is here.

I’m referring g to the RINO politicians that have resisted this President.

They need the practice. There’s going to be 5-1/2 more years of it.
