If Americans are going to do nothing about the use and glorification of illegal drugs in the USA, then the drug cartels will continue to exist, .
The problem with the logic here is that America** is** doing something, a lot as a matter of fact, about drugs. It is the number one cause of incarceration in the Country, yet these cartels exist.

What America has been doing is not effective in stopping the flow of illegal drugs into the USA. Americans are still demanding cocaine and heroine and that is why these drug cartels exist and are flourishing, IMHO. There have been movies which have glorified the use of illegal drugs, and it is known that there have been famous people who have used these illegal drugs and have suffered no penalty for such.

Exactly right!

I cant understand why our Govt/ DEA does not recognize that the war on drugs has been a miserable failure, or their efforts have done nothing, as we all can see drug use has absolutely exploded in most states in the nation!!

Just in my region, there was a 650% increase in heroin use…WOW, this is happening right under their noses, it means MUCH MUCH more has to come thru the borders, get to its destination without being detected, and this is taking place daily, in every major city in the US, sure they intercept some, but Id bet its less than 1-2%

Back when alcohol prohibition was being tried, Govt recognized fairly quickly it would not work and ended it, it is surprising in modern times, our Govt just will not recognize all the drug efforts have failed and since use all over the country is increasing, its actually have the opposite effect…why cant they see this, are they just too proud or conceited?

Its kind of funny to see an organization keep doing the same thing over and over, trying to arrest the problem away, but it never ends, only increases, the very definition of INSANITY is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

Plus, many medical and health experts are now saying drug addiction is an actual disease, yet police refuse to acknowledge this, still arrest people buying drugs in public…?? This needs to stop, you cant cure someone by putting them in jail, and really that only adds to their problems and probably introduces them to other addicts, which leads to more use, more problems.

I think addressing the culture of drugs might help, but I am dubious of any solution to the drug problem. Addiction is a tough nut to crack.

The problem today is compared to past decades, drug use is not confined to particular groups or types of people, in the 60s and 70s, you just knew all hippies were likely drug users, or you could tell by the way they dressed, if they held down a job or not, what kind of music they were into, etc.

Its not so easy today, especially with Heroin, people that use it on a daily basis look like anyone else, they are the soccer moms dropping their kids off at school, then going to meet their dealer for a shot to get the day started, its the lawyers, executives, making a stop by their dealers on the way to work for the morning hit, you cant tell by the way people dress, their jobs, position in society, etc anymore.

One local grocery store parking lot has become a haven for morning users, its right off the expressway and 1 mile from the metro area, hundreds stop in here each morning, sit in their cars and shoot up, then on their way to their jobs, most of the people that have been arrested in this parking lot were highly educated, held good jobs, drove nice cars, they are not your average drug user.

I think this is why Heroin is continuing to be a major problem, they cant really tell who is a user and theres no certain type of user, its anyone and everyone.

Jesus would have us welcome the stranger.

Not point a gun at him and not spend your 4th screaming at kids on buses.

Very classy Americans indeed.
They are defending America against an invasion, I hope even epithets like “classy” do not deter them.

Illegal immigration = invasion???

If this is what these people thing, it scares me that they have guns, though I am not surprised they aren’t in any legitimate public service, where such exaggerations get people killed.

Last I knew, many people have been killed already.

 You mean people have been killed since the world began, since the America was founded.

I guess there have been those ignorant people with guns that mistook mental illness for aggressiveness, but switching these two terms would be the legal equivalent of using deadly force to stop a speeder that is endangering good law-abiding drivers.

Mass Graves of Migrants have already been found in Texas per USA Today:

usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/06/21/newser-mass-graves-texas/11209467/

Cartels have massacred Migrants as well:

dailynews.com/general-news/20140702/the-worst-massacres-and-mass-graves-in-mexicos-drug-war

Per the Minute Man Project, their people act only as eyes and ears of the law, they don’t draw guns, they don’t lay a hand on the migrants, they only make reports.

There was a news report, the Cartels, maybe even the Mexican Government in cooperation with the Cartels are aiding the transporting of these Migrants. Frankly I don’t know if that is true. The news report was on the Rio Grande and from the Mexican side, there was even a helicopter hovering above. They did not like the reporters snooping around it seems the narrative was implying.

So, perhaps when citizens like the Militias go to the border, yes, they should NOT cause a conflagration but perhaps it will give the State or Federal Government more thought on sending the National Guard to the Border.

I see how you mean this then. It confused me because you said this in response to me pointing out that immigration is not an invasion. An invasion is when a foreign army comes with force killing or taking prisoner the local populace and capturing land, like Iraq did to Kuwait. I think the people of Kuwait would not have complained of an immigration problem when the tanks rolled in.

Here is an interesting thought. If these people acting as the eyes and ears of law enforcement (against their wishes) form an organized armed militia to spot illegal activity, would an armed force of pro-immigration Hispanics on the border acting as the eyes and ears of law enforcement to check and record the activities of the other militia be an equally good idea?

I wonder how many people look at a headline like this and picture a bunch of racist gun nuts shooting at children. Meanwhile, I wonder how many of those children in a few years time will become gun nuts themselves when they join the ranks of violent gangs like MS-13, Los Zetas, Mexican Mafia, Surrenos, Nortenos, Fresno Bulldogs, etc.

I know nobody wants my two cents, but I am putting them in anyway.

DISCLAIMER: If this has already been brought up, I am sorry. I am way too lazy to read the whole thing.

With that out of the way:

Cent Number One: I think that the Laredo militia (can I call it that?) is a regression toward Gunsmoke-type vigilante “justice.” It’s not going to end well regardless of the people’s intentions. From what I’ve read (excellent source!), human nature has a funny habit of saying, “Once the first guy’s dead, all bets are off.”

No!

A thousand times no! (Count 'em.)

Cent Number Two: This is a direct consequence of a crisis that is itself a symptom of our (speaking as an American, of course) immigration system, which is dysfunctional to the point of ridiculous. (I love big words.) It is in dire need of fixing, but the fact is, those who have the power to fix it have no incentive to. It’s a touchy subject, and could lose a precious few percentage points.

You know how everybody wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to do what it takes to get there? (Remind me who originally said that.) Same thing with immigration policy.

And, I’m out of cash. See you around.
