BERKELEY, Calif. - At U.C. Berkeley free speech and campus safety could be on a collision course. A leader of a Republican student organization called Berkeley Patriot has confirmed that conservative authors and provocateurs Milo Yiannopoulis and Ann Coulter have agreed to speak on campus.

Yep, pretty much. The best thing that can be done for these two is to ignore them. They feed off of outrage, but offer nothing of insight to be worth anyone’s time (conservative or liberal).
 
Woo-hoo. The guy who supports statutory rape and the woman who said Trump could perform abortions in the White House as long as he kept the illegals out. Both so desperate for attention, good or bad.

Yet, some fall for it and post their desperate cries for attention here. Who will defend them?
 
The real question is, will they able to speak, or will they be prevented from doing so by the law of left wing mobocracy. The last time Milo planned to speak in Berkeley it was the latter.

Hopefully the higher-ups at Berkeley will say no. The right to free speech does not mean these people are entitled to a platform.

And who can forget Milo’s speech at CPAC? Wait. What speech? That’s right, he didn’t speak there either. I wonder if they plan on changing their mind or will he be prevented from doing so by the law of right wing mobocracy.

As much as I loathe the thought of these trolls having a public platform, I think the best way to make them go away for good is to just ignore them. For them, bad press is literally good press. It sells more books. They’ll disappear into obscurity if they stop getting reactions from the people they’re trolling.

They’re invited to speak. Why shouldn’t they be allowed? Can you not handle someone with a different viewpoint than yours? What are you so afraid of?

You are actually correct in ascertaining that I can’t handle Milo Yiannopoulis’ viewpoints. I happen to think that pederasty is a disgusting form of child abuse, and the fact that some people are treating a man who supports it as a paragon of integrity and reason makes me very uncomfortable. Don’t even get me started with Ann Coulter.

These people are successful simply because people like you react the way you do. Despite the bombs that Ann Coulter throws in order to cause a stir, the things she says are not so far fetched. I don’t know much about Yiannopulis but I would assume that a mature individual should be able to handle what he says without feeling the need to riot, loot and burn things down. The problem is not with the things these people say, it is the reactions of those on the other side who cannot tolerate a different viewpoint. And why is it always those on the left who riot when confronted with things they don’t like but (hardly) never the right?

Yes, the right to free speech **does **mean these people are entitled to a platform.

But why should a university have a free speech week? What do they call the other 51 weeks of the year? “*Controlled *Speech Weeks”?

It is like the universities that have Free Speech Zones. What do they call the rest of the campus?
