MILWAUKEE, December 15, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The incoming Archbishop of Milwaukee, Jerome Listecki, has responded to a campaign by “Young Catholics for Choice” to promote use of contraception and abortion among Catholic youth.

Using media advertising the group is, says the Archbishop-Designate, “attempting to convey the message that Catholics can disregard Church teaching regarding contraception, abortion and human sexuality in general and remain Catholics in good standing.” However, “Nothing could be further from the truth.”

“While people can call themselves whatever they want, it is my duty as a bishop to state clearly and unequivocally that by professing and disseminating views in grave contradiction to Catholic teaching, members of organizations like ‘Young Catholics for Choice’ in fact disown their Catholic heritage, tragically distancing themselves from that communion with the Church to which they are called,” added the archbishop.

These people are young and foolish. Maybe some day they will change. What I can;t get over is Catholics for Choice, they should be old enough to know better.

Good for the bishop. Next thing you know you will have a “catholic no church on Sunday”
group promoting their position.
 
It is also a well-deserved comment after Milwaukee Public Schools considered recently to make condoms avaliable to sexually-active students. I think we and they would be much better served by promoting abstinence until marriage…
 
There are a lot of people out there who can’t call themselves Catholic then…

Be careful to read what the bishop said clearly. It is one thing (and bad enough) to be rebellious and sinful in one’s own behavior. But that isn’t what he is speaking of here.

What he is (gently) saying is that those who publicly and knowingly attempt to teach that a moral evil is a moral good in defiance of clear catholic teaching are excommunicating themselves. No he hasn’t used the word, but he’s using the definition instead. Same thing. Good on him. About time we start confronting the elephant in the room.

You are correct. I think that it is somewhere in Matthew where Jesus states woe to them who lead others astray. It’s one thing to not understand why the Church teaches something and quite another to openly oppose Church teaching.
 
This is exciting! Yet another bishop standing up to rebellious Catholics in the Church, telling them what the Church teaches! Things are looking up, folks! 🙂

I predicted this a while back. The Pope is appointing orthodox, faithful men to be bishops. It’s showing. And, they’re running their dioceses as if they actually had spines! They’re really doing what Christ called them to do and are willing to take a hit to help those who stray by pointing out that they have strayed. Spiritual Work of Mercy - Admonish the Sinner. Yep. That’s it, alrighty. May God have mercy on us all and give us even more strong bishops and priests to lead us!

Oh, and did I mention, that about half the bishops in the U.S. (forget the actual percentage) are scheduled to reach mandatory retirement age in the next couple of years or so! This includes the archbishop of Los Angeles (no names mentioned) and other similar types. 🙂

I wish they would do both. Having sex before marriage is really bad, having unprotected sex before marriage is really bad AND really dumb. if your going to be bad at least dont be dumb!.
see its not a hard message to offer kids and maybe there will be fewer abortions.
 
sin is never a good idea, and having sex without being married and using a condom is not just one sin it is 2

I see your point but in reality by the time they get to the condom its probably more like twenty sins so adding one more to prevent the pregnancy and probable abortion and disease seems a small addition. I say this in understanding your church has a prohibition on birth control that I am not compelled to agree with. I do however appreciate your bishop standing strong on what he believes is sinful. God gave us the example of what happens when morality and perfect laws are mandated.(see the old testament) then He gave us the ability to receive Grace and the gift of the Holy Spirit, it is only through that, that the unredeemed will ever have the desire to obey Gods laws. So the unredeemed will do what the unredeemed will do. lets focus on keeping them safe and getting them the message of the gospel of our Lord.
 
Every sin is an affront to God…You aren’t pleasing Him by wearing a condom…It isn’t the lesser of 2 evils…We are obliged to avoid the near occasion of sin and plotting to be prepared with a condom is doing just that…it is premeditated sin
