ST. PAUL, MINNNESOTA, January 6, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Archbishop John C. Nienstedt of St. Paul and Minneapolis has told his clergy they are not to publicly contradict the Church’s teachings on the defense of marriage, nor oppose the archdiocese’s attempts to place a constitutional amendment on the state ballot defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman.

“The gravity of this struggle, and the radical consequences of inaction propels me to place a solemn charge upon you all,” he told attendees of the Clergy Study Day. “On your ordination day, you made a promise to promote and defend all that the Church teaches. I call upon that promise in this effort to defend marriage. There ought not be open dissension on this issue.”

Good, we need some more socially conservative people in Minnesota who are in line with Church teaching (same thing as socially conservative). Of course, I seriously doubt anyone would vote in favor of an amendment like that in this liberal haven.😃

That is not true. Our military defend our country from attack by simply being able to respond forcefully. Missile defense systems defend against missles even when no missile has been fired at us. Flu shots defend against the flu even when we are not sick. Helmets defend against head injury even when your head isn’t subjected to forceful blows.
Don’t you have something nice to say about the Archbishop? Don’t you think your remark is a lot more than a little petty?😦

I would give my life to preserve religious freedom in this country, and that includes yours. When someone tries to pass a law saying that the Catholic church must marry gays I will be the first one outraged. But calling every act that you don’t like an attack on your faith only hurts your case and further divides the country. Not to mention its hyperbolic.

Such an act would be unlikely to succeed, without the incremental changes that you’re saying we shouldn’t publicly denounce.

Every incremental shift is the result of a victory by a self-righteous group of professional politicians and revolutionaries. Gays are just the tool they’re using to demand change–their ‘sacrificial lamb’ if you will. This isn’t hyperbole, its how the Liberal political machine works in America.

I should point out the obvious that its quite easy to SAY you’ll give your life for something. Even God has a little trouble with following through on that one, or at least that’s what our Bible tells us. 😉

However, he is defending the Church from people in authority (priests in this case) from undermining Church teaching. If that isn’t defending the Church I am not sure what is. 🤷

You don’t need to go as far as missile defense systems and flu shots to defend the Archbishop’s actions.

The simple truth is that if diocesan priests are unwilling or unable to find it within themselves to defend the Catholic vision of life and the faith of their parishioners, they don’t need to be priests. They don’t need to live in nice palatial rectories, or command the respect that the collar and ‘Father insert-last-name’ call for, or get first dibs on my mom’s fish on fish fry Fridays before I can even have any.

They need to get a job, and start earning an honest wage, if they’re not willing to be Catholic priests to the best of the their ability. Hell, they’re not even fit to call the shots on Bingo night, if they unwilling or unable to do their job.

It is the Archbishops job to defend the Church and if he isn’t doing it then he isn’t doing his job. Protecting sacraments is doing his job and for that I say…thanks…God bless.🙂
 
I wasn’t too shocked when I heard this. Nienstedt has been very outspoken about his support of the Marriage Amendment. We are a very socially liberal state, and even with the push from the Arch, there’s a good chance this amendment will fail. It will be an interesting vote this November.

Yes they are, otherwise Catholic Charities would not have been forced to close in multiple states so as to not be forced to go against Church teaching.
