Bl. Father McGivney pray for us! May the Lord be glorified in all of his angels and saints!
The cause for the canonization of Father Michael J. McGivney was opened by the Archdiocese of Hartford on December 10, 1997. After extensive investigation, the miracle was confirmed by Pope Francis on May 27, 2020. Because of this miracle, Fr. McGivney will be beatified and then be referred to as Blessed Michael McGivney.

No, it was founded as a Catholic organization, by an Irish-American priest who ministered to his flock of Americans.
It was founded by many of Irish descent and given the name Columbus in 1882. Now most on these forums realize that the majority of catholics at that time in this country came in during the Irish famine

There were a significant number of Italians, as well, and Venerable Rev. McGivney was not deaf to their pleas.

There were some Italians but the Italian population did not arrive in America until the twentieth century for the most part.

Interesting that this comes as the name of Columbus is being impugned. Providence works in mysterious ways.

Knights of Columbus was founded as an Irish organization.
No.

Fr. McGivney was involved with the Ancient Order of Hibernians in America, which was/is limited to Irish descendants (and their husbands) before founding the Knights.

The KofC has been for all Catholic men from its first meeting on,.

I think my wording is off. It was founded as a Catholic organization. At the time there were a majority of Irish Catholics. Italian Catholics were prominent too in the organization.

My father was in the Hibernians and I am well aware of that group.

Let me bring you back to the original thread…the miracle baby! I’ve met this little guy. He’s a sweetie.

Beautiful story. Father McGivney inspired Catholic men for fight for their families and to be gentile.
